Racist Ignoramus Nasir Safar's Political Future Will Reveal Najib's True Intentions

By now the buzz naturally is the racism filled tirade by the psychiatrically predisposed(?) Datuk Nasir Safar, (the ugly bloke's pic is above) special officer to the prime minister. So filled with racist venom is this man, that he with such stupidity, spat it with a violence normally associated with cobras, of all places at a mulitracial gathering, a '1 Malaysia' seminar in Malacca! It certainly raises doubts about the state of his mind when he threw caution and common sense into the tong sampah and gave a lecture, which by past experience should have been reserved for a meeting of the wingnuts in Umno along with the currently in vogue Perkasa and assorted inferiority complex laden loonies or at an 'exclusive' BTN taklimat.

What is with Malacca that makes these crazies flip? On 15th October 2007 the other racist dunderhead, Malacca CM Mohd Ali Rustam spoke at a mulitracial convention of the PPP in the historic town where he basically told the delegates that Umno does not need non-Malays to govern the country! He declared that his party has ruled Malaysia for 50 years, they can rule for another 50 years more. And Umno does not need PPP, MCA, MIC, Gerakan, Sabah, Sarawak or anyone else to do this and that they can take a hike. That Umno got drubbed five months after his speech in the March 2008 GE shows the disconnect between his racist logic and the reality on the ground. Yet Umno delegates in the last party elections overwhelmingly supported him and would have voted for this fellow, making him our next deputy PM if only he was not suspended for election fraud! Not that Muhyiddin is any better.

But I digress. Within hours of Nasir Safar's ill-fated speech the heat became too much to bear and the poor sod had to resign, presumably only after being ordered to do so by Najib, because I'm sure in his tiny little racist mind Nasir probably felt he had done no wrong. In fact some others at the PM's office felt the same too. For example read this interesting bit from Bernama -- "The remarks allegedly made by Nasir does not in any way reflect the views of the Prime Minister. Datuk Nasir never intended to make any derogatory remarks. He spoke at length on the contributions made by all races in developing the country. Nevertheless, Nasir apologises for any offence caused. In light of this, Datuk Nasir will tender his resignation." A bloody cold and heartless statement. No sign of remorse or disappointment and not even an acknowledgement that the 'special officer' had drastically crossed the line of decent discourse. The crux of that PM's office bullshit is "well, Nasir did not do any wrong, in fact he's a decent chap who actually even praised the non-Malays, has no malice towards them even if he may have said a few harsh words although that was not his intention. In any case if you non-Malays out there have 'misconstrued' his good intentions, he says he's sorry and quits. By the way Nasir's speech does not reflect the PM's views." Haa!

If Najib seriously considers his special officer's act as a very wrong thing to do, then he should put Nasir permanently to pasture. But I doubt that very much and I hope that someone who can, should keep track of Nasir Safar's future from now on. There is every chance that over the next few weeks or months he'll quietly surface not far from the centre of power, perhaps even more strong and respected by his peers. You see what Nasir Safar so foolishly blurted out in Malacca has much resonance not only within Umno but also amongst a significant portion of the general Malay populace because of the party's unrelenting racist propaganda through its media machine including Utusan Malaysia and government apparatus such as BTN. In fact his speech may serve to provide much needed galvanizing power for Umno vis a vis the Malay public.

Nasir Safar will be rewarded by Najib et al because in the convoluted mind and perverse logic of Umno style racism, he is a Wira Bangsa like Mohd Ali Rustam, provided he doesn't get too big for his Bata slippers. In what form and shape that reward will come is something for us to wait and watch. Only then will we know the true intent of Najib's 1Malaysia propaganda. And please don't forget that by his racist outbursts Nasir has at least temporarily shifted the focus from other issues dogging Najib such as the Allah controversy. That should please the PM for a while. Also do remember that even if by a very rare pang of conscience Najib were to allow Nasir to drift to Gilligan's Island, there is always good old Muhyiddin who may with undisguised glee throw him a lifeline and keep him in good humour along with other like-minded comrades in arms, while waiting for the opportune moment to make his own strike.

Has Dr Mahathir Finally Flipped His Lid?

We know that with advancing age, many people do experience intellectual shortcomings. More often than not we tend to expect and accept these deficiencies as part of the process of life and sympathize with those afflicted with this malady. However if the aging person happens to be a one time world leader who suddenly makes silly pronouncements and downright ridiculous claims, we have to perforce sit up and take notice.

And if that person happens to be Tun Dr Mahathir who reportedly has claimed that the 9/11 attacks in the United States, that killed nearly 3,000, was staged as an excuse to “mount attacks on the Muslim world” we have to seriously consider if the man has taken leave of his senses. The rubbish which he is mouthing is the conspiracy stuff that you'll read on a nutcase's blog in Pakistan or some middle eastern country.

Consider his logic in this statement - “In September 2001, the World Trade Centre was attacked allegedly by terrorists. I am not sure now that Muslim terrorists carried out these attacks. There is strong evidence that the attacks were staged. If they can make Avatar, they can make anything”!!

As if to provide more fodder for others to question his sanity he also states that the creation of the Jewish state was decided after Europeans failed to massacre the community.

Whether these are the words of a madhatter or if it is another deviously planned statement designed for considerable impact on the local population for some political gain remains to be seen.

Anwar Ibrahim Fears Government Plan To Sabotage By-Election

Malaysian opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim said on Sunday that he feared the government may resort to "massive funding and bribery" to sabotage his chances of winning a parliamentary election.

Anwar, who is battling allegations that he raped a former male aide, plans to stand for election from a constituency in northern Penang state which his wife has vacated.

"If... Barisan Nasional decide(s) to get rough with massive funding and bribery then we will have to be really prepared," Anwar told reporters referring to the ruling coalition.

"We will have to see how many 100 million (ringgit) will be brought there (to the constituency). We are not taking it for granted," he said.

Anwar's wife Wan Azizah resigned last week to make way for him to contest and regulations state that a by-election must be held within the next 60 days.

The Election Commission will meet on Wednesday to decide on the election date.

Kinabatangan MP Bung Mokhtar Radin Makes Lewd Gesture In Parliament

Kinabatangan BN member of Parliament Bung Mokhtar Radin, a three-term MP was caught red-handed on a RTM1 live telecast making a lewd gesture during the parliament proceedings this morning.

However this notorious specimen had the temerity to flatly deny that the incident ever took place!

Bung Mokhtar, a bad example for politicians generally and who accurately epitomises the terrible quality of the current crop of Barisan 'leaders' is better known for the many controversial remarks he has made in Parliament. This includes the infamous ‘bocor’ incident, use of the ‘F’ word and quipping that opposition veteran Karpal Singh was ‘about to die’. And this bloody ape is the Deputy Chairman of Backbenchers Club!

Will RTM kindly re-telecast the disputed segment of this morning's session so that the people can decide whether this man is fit to continue as a member of Parliament.

But The Snake Is A Phallic Symbol, Hamidah Osman. Or Didn't You Know?

At a time when Umno is at its weakest and the quality of its politicians already at the lowest levels since Independence, a Perak state assemblywoman, Hamidah Osman (BN-Sungai Rapat) hit rock bottom yesterday and proceeded to actively dig herself deeper into whatever slime she may have expected to find down there.

While the rest of the members at the Perak state assembly were dueling the way our politicians are wont to, with at least some relevant point being raised to hit out at each other, our lady Hamidah interjected in the midst of the debate to expose her filthy, racist mind as well as give free expression to her irrational preoccupation with snakes. Whether it ends with snakes or extends further to the level of a sexual obsession for phallic symbols and more, is something only that she and those 'close' to her can clarify.

It was reported in today's The Star that this racist Umno excuse for a pemimpin, Hamidah Osman (BN-Sungai Rapat) "earned the wrath of the Pakatan Rakyat assemblymen when she asked whether State assembly Speaker V. Sivakumar 'agreed to disagree' with the well-known fable of whether a snake or a man from a certain racial community should be killed first."

How do you like that for a quality debate? What does it tell you about this detestable woman who probably projects herself to her penyokong2 as a pious and God fearing member of society? With people like her at the helm of Umno what remote chance is there for a truly united and prosperous Malaysia? And do you for a minute think that she'll be the last of the racists from that accursed political party? God bless Malaysia.

China Demolishes Mosque For Not Supporting Olympics - Exiled Group

Chinese authorities in the restive far western region of Xinjiang have demolished a mosque for refusing to put up signs in support of this August's Beijing Olympics, an exiled group said on Monday.

The mosque was in Kalpin county near Aksu city in Xinjiang's rugged southwest, the World Uyghur Congress said.

The spokesman's office of the Xinjiang government said it had no immediate comment, while telephone calls to the county government went unanswered.

"China is forcing mosques in East Turkistan to publicise the Beijing Olympics to get the Uighur people to support the Games (but) this has been resisted by the Uighurs," World Uyghur Congress spokesman Dilxat Raxit said in an emailed statement.

Beijing says al Qaeda is working with militants in Xinjiang to use terror to establish an independent state called East Turkistan.

Oil-rich Xinjiang is home to 8 million Turkic-speaking Uighurs, many of whom resent the growing economic and cultural influence of the Han Chinese.

Dilxat Raxit added that the mosque, which had been renovated in 1998, was accused of illegally renovating the structure, carrying out illegal religious activities and illegally storing copies of the Muslim holy book the Koran.

"All the Korans in the mosque have been seized by the government and dozens of people detained," he said. "The detained Uighurs have been tortured."

The Olympic torch relay passed through Xinjiang last week under tight security, with all but carefully vetted residents banned from watching on the streets and tight controls over foreign media covering the event, reports Reuters.

Dr Mahathir's Blog & Speeches - Defending The Indefensible; Beginning To Grate On Our Nerves

Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad claims that former judges removed during the 1988 judicial crisis were “bribed” into making allegations against him.

It was evident, he said, that the former judges who received ex-gratia payments from the Government had been made to say negative things about him.

“It’s been five years since I stepped down (as prime minister) and they had all these years to come out without fear to say I am bad. But why is it that only now, after having gotten money, are they saying so?'' he questioned when speaking to over 1,000 supporters here yesterday.

“Give all the judges some money so they all say the same thing,” he added.

Dr Mahathir, who regarded the billions given to Sabah and Sarawak as bribes in exchange for support, said a government which practised such corruption could not expect its people and followers to be different.

“When people oppose, make them senator or minister, give them money, give them a Tan Sri title but is this the Government that we want, is this what we call democracy? We can give money to Sabah and Sarawak but that doesn’t mean we will get their support,” he said.

During his one-hour speech, Dr Mahathir also suggested the setting up of an advisory panel to the prime minister.

“When power is given to only one person, there is a tendency to misuse that power and it becomes hard to separate the person from that power,” he said.

The same, he noted, should also be applied to the post of Umno president. (The Star)

***** Displaying signs of paranoia or senile decay or both, Dr Mahathir seriously voiced his concern yesterday that former judges had been 'bribed to throw dirt' at him! Dr M was of course referring to the comments made by retired Federal Court judge Tan Sri Azmi Kamaruddin who alleged that the former PM had wanted to amend Article 121 of the Federal Constitution because he wanted the judiciary to be under his control.

As a consequence of his convoluted thought process and a mind which is impervious to hearing the harsh truth about his misrule, Dr Mahathir cannot or will not perceive that it was his pernicious impatience in complying with the rule of law as well as his politically calculated wrongdoings which turned the lives of these honest judges into living hell.

To their credit these senior judges kept their opinion and counsel to themselves until now, when the government itself has accepted the gross injustice done to them. The ex-gratia payment is a poor substitute to the way their lives had been traumatised by Dr Mahathir's devious strategies and unbridled ambition. If some of them don't speak up now, then when can they get to tell their side of the story? - The horror story of one man's total domination of a country for 22 years during which he successfully either destroyed, dismantled or substantially weakened every single institution of the state. But now that some of them have directly pointed to Dr M as the culprit-in-chief, his only defense is that they have been bribed! Only a graft-ridden mind can so clearly smell bribery where there is none.

It is rich that Dr Mahathir should refer to Pak Lah by saying “when power is given to only one person, there is a tendency to misuse that power and it becomes hard to separate the person from that power.” That very statement totally embodies Dr M's tyrannical rule of the nation and it grates on our nerves to listen to this kind of argument from him ad nauseam, for there is this arrogant assumption that we are a bunch of suckers who'll believe all the misinformation which he feeds through his blog and speeches.

Set Example And Don’t Raise Sensitive Issues, Dr Mahathir Urged

Tamil Nesan has called on the former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to avoid raising sensitive issues which will affect national unity or create racial tension.

In its editorial, the paper said that the retired elder statesman should set an example for future leaders by showing the proper way and giving the necessary advice.

The paper also reminded the people that the country belonged to them and that it was their responsibility to cooperate and work together for the country’s economic growth and success.

The people must support the new economic policy and the new government led by Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi who had brought about many reforms, the paper said.

It also said that the people expected to get equal opportunities in the education, economic and government sectors.

The paper hoped that Malaysians would continue to maintain unity and racial tolerance so that the country would continue to prosper.

***** It is indeed a disgrace that the people are now forced to remind a one time leader of the country to stop playing up race issues! In an explicit display of his innermost thoughts and his convoluted approach to political and ethnic issues lately, Dr Mahathir has convinced the whole country that he is at the moment, the biggest impediment to national unity and inter-racial harmony. A clear and present danger, if you will.

One wonders how our nation actually survived his twenty-plus year rule without having shattered into a thousand pieces. Perhaps we should thank the non-Malay leaders of BN component parties for their endless display of servitude through the eighties and nineties which ironically kept Dr M in check and didn't give him the excuse or opportunity to engage in Umno-style genocide.

Over the past few years, through his own recalcitrance and without any help from his detractors within Umno, Dr Mahathir has singlehandedly dismantled his own increasingly dubious legacy and the people will not view him kindly half-a-century from now. But the damage he is potentially capable of inflicting on everyone of us today by deviously inciting racial passions, must indeed be a worry. How do you handle an influential, aging and racist loose cannon? Especially one who apparently has decided to take leave of his senses.

Despite Change In Political Landscape, Rela Still Alive And Kicking

A 42-year-old tour guide has lodged a police report after a group of Rela members allegedly tried to break into her apartment in Tingkat Tong Shin here while apparently tracking a suspected illegal immigrant.

Leow Mee Leng said that the men had failed to identify themselves properly, did not have a search warrant and were not accompanied by any policeman or Immigration officer.

In the 3.15am incident on Monday, Leow said she was fast asleep at her apartment located on the second floor of a town house. "I heard a thumping sound at my front door and heard a man shouting loudly, asking me to come out.

"I went to the door and asked him what the problem was, but he only shouted back that if I did not open the door he would break it open. I peeked through the peephole and saw several men standing outside. Fearing for my life, I ran back into my room and telephoned my first-floor neighbour who advised me to open the door,'' she said.

Leow said she hesitated for several minutes but decided to open the door when her neighbour and his wife came over to her apartment and shouted at her to open the door.

"There were about six to eight men in uniform, and one of them just dashed into my house with a torchlight. The man came out several minutes later and told his superior that he did not find anything,'' she said, adding that they refused to tell her what they were looking for.

Leow said that when urged by her neighbour, one of the Rela members told him that they were looking for "someone" who had escaped and believed to be hiding in Leow's house.

"The man also asked my neighbour's wife whether I was a Malaysian. When she told them that I was, they told me to go back into my apartment and then left hastily,'' she said.

Leow claimed that several minutes later, she saw the men taking away four women and two men from another apartment. She said her front door had been damaged and is missing an iron bar.

She lodged a report at the Dang Wangi police station on Monday evening. (The Star)

UK Advertising Watchdog: Malaysian Palm Oil Ads Misleading. Friends of the Earth Term The Ads 'A Complete Lie'

The UK Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) censured Wednesday commercials for Malaysian palm oil, saying they break the rules and are misleading.

Two television advertisements for the Malaysia Palm Oil Council, which promotes the market expansion of Malaysian palm oil, wrongly imply the product is good for the environment, the authority said.

The ASA said the commercials breached rules on misleading advertising, evidence and environmental claims.

The first commercial shows a palm oil plantation while a voice-over says: 'Its trees give life and help our planet breathe, and give home to hundreds of species of flora and fauna.' This is likely to mislead viewers about the environmental benefits of oil palm plantations in comparison with native rainforest, the ASA said. The claim about flora and fauna is also likely to mislead, it said.

The second ad's voice-over says: 'Its trees give life and help our planet breathe. Its fruit provides vitamins for our bodies and energy for our daily lives.' The authority upheld two complaints about the second commercial lodged by the environmental campaign group Friends of the Earth.

'Because there was not a consensus that there was a net benefit to the environment from Malaysia's palm oil plantations, we concluded the ads were misleading,' the ASA said.

The Malaysia Palm Oil Council said plantations do not typically replace native rainforest, that they are customarily sustainable and that they support biodiversity.

Friends of the Earth biofuels campaigner Hannah Griffiths said: 'It is a complete lie to advertise palm oil as sustainably produced. It has devastating impacts on the environment and on local communities.' (CNNMoney.com)

Umno's Attorney-General Withdraws 'Attempted Murder' Charge Against Hindraf 31

Our esteemed Attorney-General Abdul Gani Patail, the principal legal adviser to the Government of Malaysia and Umno lackey extraordinaire without a backbone, today shamelessly withdrew the legally untenable charges of 'attempted murder' against the thirty-one persons who took part in a rally on November 25th at the Batu Caves temple to highlight government-sponsored racial discrimination.

He was also forced to drop all charges against five young students who were part of this group of 'potential murderers'. However the remaining twenty-six were charged today at the Klang Sessions Court for 'causing mischief and illegal assembly' and all of them pleaded guilty.

There was no doubt at all from the moment trumped-up charges were used to haul in the Hindraf 31, that the charges would not stick. The government unnecessarily invited public anger and international pressure upon itself by attempting to make a federal case out of a rally by deprived Indians who merely wished to express their anguish at being systematically marginalised by the Umno leadership. But the kerajaan perhaps stunned by the event itself and and in a fit of arrogance and anger decided to unwisely lash out without giving due credence to the validity of the rally's rationale. Call it reflex stupidity.

Overseeing this unforgivable travesty of justice was the spineless A-G who has unfortunately passed up on a great opportunity to set matters straight in our country. If only he had not thought about his own interest and welfare and had had the larger good of the country in mind, he would have put his foot down on politically motivated and inspired prosecution of persons who merely exercised their rights as citizens.

Instead he played the role of Umno's errand boy to the hilt, earning the gratitude of powerful umnoputeras. What more does Abdul Gani want to achieve? A Supreme Court judgeship after retirement as was done for another notorious lackey? Millions of RM as earnings from lucrative directorships of mega-companies?

If only he had acted to the conscience expected of a genuine Attorney-General, he would have at worst been berated by the likes of that trouble-maker Nazri or frowned upon by the leadership. Perhaps he and his family might have been subjected to extraneous pressures and political browbeating. But he would have made his mark in a country where there are millions of fawning sycophants but precious few heroes. History would have praised him as the courageous legal officer who stood for justice and who even in the face of adversity remained true to its cause. But alas!

Which Crook Selected This Arrogant Lowlife?

Two phone calls from his bosses, an empty stomach and poor time management saw the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) president abruptly end a public hearing last Wednesday. Adnan Md. Ikhsan was chairing a meeting to hear public objections on a proposed commercial development in SS15.

Turning up an hour late, he proceeded to vet the attendees, talked about "compromise" and advised them how to conduct themselves. The meeting held on Deepavali eve was scheduled for 10.30am but started at 11.37am. Adnan, who said he had four meetings before that, started the session by trying to get uninvited residents to leave the conference room.

This prompted residents to ask why only 16 of the 31 who submitted forms to be invited to the hearing were allowed in. Quoting the Town and Country Planning Act 1976, Adnan said only those living within 20m of the proposed development could attend. When it was brought to his attention that the council was giving up a community hall without offering an alternative, the council chief spent 20 minutes educating the residents on "give and- take and the virtues of compromise".

"Before we start the session, there must be trust, honesty and fairness," he said. It was then that his cell-phone rang – a call from Housing and Local Government Ministry secretary-general Datuk Ahmad Fuad Ismail – who was MPSJ’s first president – who had been alerted that residents were kept waiting.

"I am sorry for starting so late. I had four meetings before this. I have not even had a drink!" Adnan said after the call. "I can’t just cancel the previous meetings. I can’t ask them to go home although their time was up," he explained.

He also revealed that he had to cram so many meetings into one day as "I want to finish everything fast before I go on leave next week".

As a resident was presenting his case, Adnan told him to "simplify it because we are running out of time". He caught some by surprise when he appeared unsure of what project was being discussed, asking his officers: "Ada balai raya ke?" He then corrected the residents and explained that balai raya was smaller, while they were referring to a dewan serbaguna (multipurpose hall).

"There is a difference. Dewan is bigger." The meeting ended after Adnan received another phone call – this time from Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Sidek Hassan. It was after this call that Adnan lost his cool when a resident chided him for his lack of focus and the constant interruptions on his cell phone. "What do you want me to do? That was the KSU and the KSN. Of course when my bosses call, I have to leave the room.

"I am feeling very hot now and I’m not comfortable with this discussion. I propose that we postpone the meeting to a later date. I’m sorry. I am also human. I also have feelings," he said. When those present objected, he said "Is it fair to me? I want to hear from you, but you see it differently.

"I want to move to another room so that only those invited will be let in. I cannot ask those uninvited who are seated to leave. It won’t be appropriate," he said and left at 12.10pm after shaking hands with some residents. (By Terence Fernandez and Geraldine Choong - The Sun)

Many Women Justify Wife Beating In India!

If you thought domestic violence was on the wane in India with the rise in education levels, take a look at these hard figures. Over 40% of women in a nationwide survey reported being beaten by their husbands at some point of time. More shockingly, around 54% of the women surveyed thought that such violence was justified on one ground or the other.

According to India’s most comprehensive National Family Health Survey-III, which interviewed 125,000 women in 28 states and the national capital during 2005-06, 41% of women justified wife beating if it was because they showed disrespect towards their in-laws while 35% women were OK with being brutally assaulted by their husbands if they neglected household chores or their children.

Not surprisingly then, 51% of the 75,000 men interviewed didn’t find anything wrong with assaulting their wives.

Dr Sulabha Parasuraman of the International Institute of Population Studies, who spearheaded the survey conducted jointly by 18 organisations, termed this attitude of Indian women "truly shocking".

"Men are brought up being taught that beating up their wives isn’t wrong while women are told that being assaulted by their husbands is acceptable. Girls are taught that they can be punished by their husbands for disobedience. This social attitude has to change immediately," she said. (The Times Of India)

Barefaced Liar, Half-Dope Nazri Says "No Crisis In Judiciary"!

There is no crisis in the judiciary, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Mohamad Nazri Abdul Aziz said today.

Speaking to the media Nazri said allegations that there was a crisis in the judiciary were the work of opposition parties who wanted to influence citizens not to have confidence in the judiciary.

He said this when questioned about the march by Bar Council members to the Prime Minister's office this morning to submit two memorandums, one calling for the setting up of a Royal Commission of Inquiry to investigate a video clip showing a senior lawyer purportedly brokering appointment of judges and the other for the establishment of an independent judicial commission to appoint judges.

"They should go and check the facts first, verify the clip first. At the moment we do not know whether the tape is authentic. So we cannot jump to conclusion and lawyers are the people that should not jump to conclusions in the first place," he said.

He added that the government had formed a three-man independent panel headed by retired Chief Judge of Malaya Tan Sri Haidar Mohd Noor with former Court of Appeal judge Datuk Mahadev Shankar and social activist Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye as the other members to conduct an impartial probe into the controversial video clip.

***** Sometimes I wonder if Nazri is a closet masochist who derives pleasure from being publicly humiliated and reviled for the rubbish he spews out almost on a daily basis. How else can one explain the out-of-touch-with-reality statements he has a predilection for issuing, which has made him a laughing stock?

Ever since Dr Mahathir 'emasculated' the judiciary in the mid-eighties, there has been one crisis of confidence after another. Tun Hamid Omar and Tun Eusoffe Chin have already gone down in Malaysian legal history for the wrong reasons. The out-of-turn promotion of incompetent lackeys to high office in the superior courts is a national disgrace as is the overlooking and sidelining of erudite, impartial and courageous judges who do not bow to government pressure or kowtow to the executive.

Anyone who says that there is no crisis in the judiciary should seriously have his head examined. Until he is certified mentally suitable and fit, the person in question should at least temporarily quit his office. Do you think Nazri ever will? No. There is a better chance of having snowfall in Putrajaya this Christmas than the half-dope calling it a day.

Malaysian Student Defends YouTube Rap Video Of Negaraku

A Malaysian Chinese student has defended posting a racially provocative rap video of the national anthem on YouTube that enraged ethnic Malays, saying he was merely exposing the truth in his music, according to a report Thursday.

"I'm simply reflecting the truth about our society through my music and I did not mean to offend anyone by producing such a video clip. I still love my country," Wee Meng Chee, 24, was quoted as saying The Star newspaper.

Wee has come under fire for mocking the national anthem and using racial slurs in his rap video posted on the Internet site last month, which sparked a flood of abusive criticism from Malays but expressions of support from the ethnic Chinese community.

The divergent responses expose the deep divisions in the multiethnic country, where minority Chinese and Indians have long resented the privileges that the majority Muslim Malays receive in jobs and education under an affirmative action program.

Wee, who is studying at the Ming Chuan University in Taiwan, insisted he was patriotic and didn't mean to be seditious or to attack the government, The Star newspaper said.

More than half a million people have viewed the six-minute clip, in which Wee blends the national anthem, "Negaraku," with a rap song that bemoaned discrimination that Chinese face in Malaysia.

He also poked fun at Muslim morning prayers broadcast from mosques, corrupt policemen and laid-back civil servants, who are mostly Malays. Some of the lyrics implied that Malays are arrogant and Chinese are hardworking.

Officials have said they are investigating whether Wee has flouted the Sedition Act, which carries a maximum prison term of three years.

But Foreign Minister Syed Hamid Albar said Thursday that the government does not have plans to recall him from Taiwan, or the means to do so. "We can recall him if he is on a government scholarship," Syed Hamid was quoted as saying by national news agency Bernama. "If a Malaysian citizen commits something unlawful under Malaysian law in a foreign land, we cannot recall him or her."

At best, police can take steps toward filing charges against him, he said.

The Star quoted Wee as saying that he wrote the song in conjunction with Malaysia's 50th independence on Aug. 31, describing it as his "gift" to the country.

He said he had removed the video from the Web site after receiving negative responses but it was uploaded again by some other supporters, the newspaper said. His face can be clearly seen in the video and he sings with the Malaysian flag as a backdrop.

Such direct lampooning of a race in public is highly uncommon in Malaysia, where the three main ethnic groups have lived peacefully together since racial riots on May 13, 1969, left at least 200 people dead. (International Herald Tribune)

***** Attempting to "merely expose the truth" with his music is one thing but to be seen as scoffing at the national anthem while "simply reflecting the truth about our society" and then claiming to be 'patriotic' demonstrates remarkable naiveté and downright stupidity.

The direct beneficiary of this silly act is the government, especially Umno. They were looking around for a good cause which they could employ to rally all the Malays behind them. The usual sandiwara stuff has not been very successful thus far. Now this golden opportunity has landed on their collective laps and you can be sure it will be milked dry at the appropriate time.

Wait and watch as the self-appointed guardians of bangsa, agama dan negara start spitting their venom, no thanks to this idiot in Taiwan.

"Be Fair, Let Zakaria 'Serve' The Rakyat While Facing 39 Charges In Court" Says Khir Toyo!

Port Klang state assemblyman Datuk Zakaria Md Deros, who is facing 39 charges under the Companies’ Act with five other people, can continue serving his constituents until the court makes its decision, said Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo.

He added that there was nothing wrong with Zakaria at the moment and he should be able to continue with his duties as a state assemblyman.

On dealing with public perception with a person facing charges in a court, Dr Khir described it as something that was not good.

“This is the problem with Malaysians. They love to jump to conclusions.

“It is not right. We should wait and see the outcome of the legal proceeding first and for the time being, he can continue with his duties as a state assemblyman,” he told reporters after officially opening the Pekan Wanita Umno delegates’ meeting at Pekan District Council Hall here Saturday.

***** Why am I not surprised by this very 'humanitarian' gesture and decision by the MB? The truth is that Toyol loves Zak (Mad) Deros both as a human being and as a Wakil Rakyat who is continously 'struggling' for bangsa, agama dan negara. As he plainly said, there is nothing wrong with Zakaria at the moment. The inference is that until he is charged, found guilty, sentenced and imprisoned, Zak can go on 'struggling' for his constituents. Of course he didn't quite mention that by the time our man Zak starts counting bars, the next pilihanraya would have been long over.

Mind you, these 39 charges have nothing to do with the hush-hush palace which Zak had built while simultaneously and resolutely 'struggling' for the rakyat. Apparently he got away scot free on the Istana fiasco with a little help from his comrade.

At one time I had wondered if Toyol and Zak's forefathers were from the same or nearby kampung in Indonesia and I still don't know the answer to that. All I've read is that they are bosom buddies who look out for each other. Therefore you can now appreciate the reason why Toyol did not ask Zak to go on leave till his name was cleared and instead resorted to blaming Malaysians as a whole for their collective negative perception about those charged in court when he said, "this is the problem with Malaysians. They love to jump to conclusions. It is not right."

One must wonder where Toyol's loyalty really lies? To the oath of office he took or to a fellow politician and saudara in 'berjuang-ing'? Meanwhile Zak Mad Deros has been given an extended lease of political life by courtesy of the toyol and should logically continue to make hay while the Selangor sun shines. Semuanya OK!

Would This Sort Of Reprimand Be Given In Malaysia?

The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) have reprimanded a son of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong,(pic) currently serving his National Service, for not following the proper procedure in channelling his complaint against a fellow serviceman.

Li Hongyi, 20, a second lieutenant, had sent an e-mail on June 28 to the defence minister and senior SAF officers, alleging that an officer in his unit had been absent without leave on two ocassions.

He also wrote in the e-mail that he had raised the matter with the officer's superior but there had been no action taken.

The Ministry of Defence said that Li had contravened the General Orders by broadcasting his letter of complaint to many other servicemen "almost all of whom were neither directly under his command, nor in an official capacity where they could deal with the matters contained in his letter of complaint."

"He has been formally charged and administered a reprimand after a summary trial," the ministry said in a statement.

***** When even the smalltime Member of Parliament from Jasin can be accorded the "close one eye" VIP treatment, what more of the sons, daughters, SILs and DILs of VVIPs? If the children of our leaders were to be subjected to the strict standards practised in Singapore, some of them would be spending much of their time answering show cause notices or attending court cases.

Nazri Strongly Backs Postal Voting. I Wonder Why

In this age of superspeed electronic communication, one cannot be blamed for asking why Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz is so keen on maintaining the very outdated and outmoded postal voting system.

According to Bernama, our self-appointed guardian of Parliament said that, "postal voting is still relevant as it allows armed forces and police personnel on duty during election to exercise their responsibility to vote." How caring and oh how democratic! Doesn't want anyone to be disenfranchised. Laudable indeed.

Nazri even assured that the entire process of postal voting is absolutely neutral, safe and aboveboard when he said that "the removal of postal vote envelopes by the election officer could be observed by agents from contesting parties as witnesses. We do not interfere in the armed forces and police administration. Things like where the personnel votes are made are decided by them."

So far so good. However when questioned further on the details, he was obviously on shaky ground. He had no choice but to admit that while the handing over of postal votes envelopes to the voters at army camps and police headquarters were only done by the Election Commission officer, witnesses from the opposition parties and from Barisan Nasional (BN) are barred from observing the process at army camps and police headquarters.

He further said that the postal voting process was conducted by the armed forces and police without interference from outside parties. Not very reassuring is it?

Just one question for the Election Commission. Since there have been so many doubts cast on the fairness and lack of transparency of the postal voting process, as well as the numerous allegations that these postal ballots are used/misused to shore up the fortune and prospects of favoured ruling party candidates, why is the Commission not switching to a more reliable mode of voting? Are the officers of the Election Commission being constrained by government pressure, or do they lack the guts and what lies inside the scrotal sac, or have they decided that it is better to think of their future than that of the democratic process which they have sworn to superintend and safeguard? Anyone would like to give some truthful answers on behalf of the Commission?

Declare Malacca CM Ali Rustam As National Heritage

The Culture, Arts and Heritage Ministry should declare more buildings as national heritage to be restored and conserved for future generations, said Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam.

"There are many more buildings in Melaka which are on the heritage list of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) but have not been declared national heritage."

Mohd Ali told this to Bernama when reacting to Friday's announcement by Culture, Arts and Heritage Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim on 50 buildings being declared as national heritage.

National heritage does not only comprise sites of buildings and nature spots, but also objects as well as songs and dances.

Mohd Ali hoped that buildings or structures which are on the Unesco's heritage list, like the Batu Berendam airport, Hang Tuah's well, Peringgit Mosque, Tengkera Mosque, Tun Teja's grave and Dataran Pahlawan could be considered national heritage.

He also welcomed efforts by the Culture, Arts and Heritage Ministry to get Melaka and Penang be recognised as world heritage cities by Unesco. (Bernama)

***** What hypocrisy! Here is the man who had a direct hand in disfiguring genuine historical sites. In Malacca, the state government has been experimenting with all kinds of gimmickry and unnecessary accessories and imported plastic plants and trees from China to 'beautify' the town. In the process it has destroyed or at least defaced a lot of the real historical sites with coats of garish paint and outlandish 'ideas'.

This included the on-off grand design of a 110m-high revolving tower which was supposed be built near the Stadhuys heritage zone here. Why? Because there is money to be made and someone is making it. And this was despite there being objections by conservationist groups, the Melaka Museum Corporation as well as the Museums and Antiquities Department to the project since it was announced. Conservationists had also feared that it would hamper Malacca's chances of being listed by Unesco as a World Heritage Site, but Mohamed Ali wouldn't listen. For him it was OK building a modern tower in order to 'preserve' a heritage site! Luckily the discovery of part of an ancient wall at the construction site of the proposed tower in Malacca put paid to that monstrosity, temporarily at least.

After having been given the "up yours" finger by Unesco, it looks like Rustam can now only depend on the tempatan version to get more Malacca sites into the list. But he himself should be declared as national heritage for single-handedly promoting Malacca in ways that others would think thrice about. One would be the gargantuan number of datukships that have been given away year after year under his watch. The other would be the international 'fame' and attention he got for Malacca by making a hue and cry about a new little-known virus named after the state. Thanks to him the whole world now knows about the Malacca virus!!

Such a man deserves to be preserved for posterity, if not as a mummy, at least by proclaiming him as national heritage. If he's a little coy about accepting the honour alone, then I suggest jointly declaring him along with that other national treasure, Mohd Khir Toyo(l).

Which Crook(s) Hacked This Website?

A special website, SUARA RAKYAT, set up by the Insolvency Department to receive public complaints on Credit Tip Off Service Sdn Bhd (CTOS), has been hacked into by certain quarters.

Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk M. Kayveas said certain quarters had attempted to hack into the website, set up last Thursday, to transfer the data stored.

He said the hackers also attempted to channel the complaints sent to the Insolvency website to an undetected website.

"The hacking is done meticulously that the e-mails sent by complainants automatically go to the undetected website and not to the Insolvency website," he said in a statement today. Kayveas said following this discovery, the department was forced to transfer some of the data to a safer website.

"I shall not be hampered by such a tactic, but will continue to ensure that those who have been victimised by CTOS, especially those who were blacklisted, get justice," he added. He said those who had complaints against CTOS could do so at the Insolvency website where the safety features had been upgraded to prevent further hacking.

Last June 25, Kayveas issued a statement that the government had never issued a licence for CTOS to search for and provide information on individuals' financial background.

He said one of the complaints against CTOS was that it was still using out-dated information which resulted in some people not being able to get bank loans.

***** Whoever masterminded the hacking attempt must be a big time crook with little respect for the law. That the person(s) responsible for this were very curious about the complaints being made against CTOS is evident. Now WHO could be THAT interested about such complaints? Hmmm.

By the way does anyone know what kind of political connections CTOS has? What is the background of the company’s chief executive officer, Chung Tze Keong (pic)? Do you think that Chung and/or some of his colleagues could have been responsible for the hacking job?
