Nizar-Zambry Trial. Did You Expect An Impartial Verdict From This Federal Court?

The long awaited judgement of the Federal Court on the rightful Mentri Besar of Perak — Umno’s Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir or PAS’s Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin is in.

The five 'learned' judges, Court of Appeal President Tan Sri Alauddin Mohd Sheriff, Chief Judge of Malaya Tan Sri Arifin Zakaria, Justices Datuk Zulkefli Ahmad Makinuddin, Datuk Mohd Ghazali Mohd Yusoff, and Datuk Abdul Hamid Embong have given their unanimous verdict that the Court of Appeal was justified to reverse the High Court decision declaring Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin the rightful mentri besar of Perak.

But who dictated this 'verdict' which Arifin Zakaria read at the 'Palace of Justice'? Why is it that the same judges are being allotted all the important cases involving the Umno led government? Is the Chief Justice afraid that allowing a truly well read and impartial judge like Datuk Seri Gopal Sri Ram to be included in the panel of judges in this and other 'crucial' cases would skew well laid plans which have their inspiration elsewhere in Putrajaya? Is it for this same reason that the Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak, Tan Sri Richard Malanjum has been sidelined too by avoiding the constituting of a full bench?

How do these judges live with themselves after such a patently unfair decision? How do they face their colleagues, families and close friends? How does it feel to have cheated not only oneself but the citizens of this country by such egregious judicial behaviour which is unparalleled in the justice system of real democratic nations by making such duplicitous and fraudulent interpretations of our constitution?

The legal experts will no doubt, over the next few days dissect and tear apart the dubious premise of this 'unanimous' decision. Not one of the five judges had the guts to rule against the Umno nominee Zambry. But then again aren't these very judges Umno nominees themselves? Shame on these cowards inhabiting the Federal Court who seem to have placed their future well-being and the welfare of their families over that of the nation.

Has Dr Mahathir Finally Flipped His Lid?

We know that with advancing age, many people do experience intellectual shortcomings. More often than not we tend to expect and accept these deficiencies as part of the process of life and sympathize with those afflicted with this malady. However if the aging person happens to be a one time world leader who suddenly makes silly pronouncements and downright ridiculous claims, we have to perforce sit up and take notice.

And if that person happens to be Tun Dr Mahathir who reportedly has claimed that the 9/11 attacks in the United States, that killed nearly 3,000, was staged as an excuse to “mount attacks on the Muslim world” we have to seriously consider if the man has taken leave of his senses. The rubbish which he is mouthing is the conspiracy stuff that you'll read on a nutcase's blog in Pakistan or some middle eastern country.

Consider his logic in this statement - “In September 2001, the World Trade Centre was attacked allegedly by terrorists. I am not sure now that Muslim terrorists carried out these attacks. There is strong evidence that the attacks were staged. If they can make Avatar, they can make anything”!!

As if to provide more fodder for others to question his sanity he also states that the creation of the Jewish state was decided after Europeans failed to massacre the community.

Whether these are the words of a madhatter or if it is another deviously planned statement designed for considerable impact on the local population for some political gain remains to be seen.

Tone Deaf Prime Minister Touts 'Spirit Of 1Malaysia' In Vesak Day Message!
In what must be one of the most egregious examples of hypocrisy and disconnect, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, today called on Malaysians not to focus on differences between one another, but instead to actively look for similarities and common ground. "In the spirit of human progress, in the spirit of developing this great country, in the spirit of 1Malaysia," sermonized our dear leader!

Has the PM been cocooned in some store room at Putrajaya for the past two days? In the aforementioned period, his so-called '1Malaysia' concept (if we can call it that) has been ripped to shreds, along with the complete ruin of his political credibility and near bankrupt reputation.

Apart from the BN controlled mainstream media, there has been almost universal condemnation of the Umno-police-gangster nexus unleashed by on high in Putrajaya, resulting in the shameful invasion of the Perak State Assembly with the active connivance of the state civil service while the Regent of Perak cooled his heels in a nearby facility for five hours! Was His Royal Highness clueless to what was transpiring nearby? Oblivious to the fact that Umno was indulging in constitutional rape of his state's legislature? One wonders.

But at least one person was all tuned in to the flagrant abuses taking place in Ipoh. The same pemimpin who now sends this Vesak Day message! What cockiness. What thick skin! Having inflicted maximum damage to the country's political institutions in the past forty-eight-hours, one would have thought that he would at least have the decency to shut up while continuing to pretend that he is above the fray and not involved in the disgrace that took place in Perak. But no! He had to demonstrate how tone deaf he really is and at the same time assert his determination to lurch from scandal to bloody scandal virtually unscathed and blissfully unconcerned about repercussions while piously preaching unity and consensus building. And oh yes, touting the 'spirit' of 1Malaysia!!

"I Have Great Faith In BN," Says Pak Lah. Do You Believe This Hype?

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said today the spirit of consensus among Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties has contributed towards making the coalition strong.

He also called on component members to take stock of events in the past which had weakened the BN, and work towards strengthening the coalition.

"If we can learn from this experience, God willing, we will do better in the future. I have great faith in BN," he said when opening the 21st delegates' conference of the Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) at the party's headquarters here.

Abdullah, who is BN chairman, said BN was a strong coalition as it had the combined strength of all component members which were united in fulfilling common manifesto and contesting under one banner during elections.

"BN is strong because of the spirit of consensus and because we practise democracy, power-sharing and tolerance and we refrain from raising sensitive issues which can lead to problems among us.

"We must emphasis more on what is common to us and avoid the differences that can cause trouble," he said. (Bernama)

***** It's surprising that even after the smaller BN component parties have publicly lamented about Umno's arrogance and lack of respect for them, the PM can still openly tout the 'spirit of consensus'! Has he so quickly forgotten that the Umno leadership was only a few months ago experiencing 'testicular shivers' over the rumoured mass defections to PKR?

The truth of the matter is that the BN is a one-party Umno show while the rest of the other parties are in it only for the personal gain of their leaders. The rest of us meanwhile, get shafted as usual and are unable to express the strong faith that Pak Lah has in the Barisan Nasional.

Prosecution Not Appealing Razak Baginda's Acquittal.

Political analyst Abdul Razak Abdullah Baginda, who was acquitted of abetment in the murder of Mongolian Altantuya Shaariibuu, can breathe easy after the prosecution confirmed Friday that it will not appeal the decision made by the Shah Alam High Court two weeks ago.

Deputy public prosecutor Tun Abdul Majid Tun Hamzah, who is leading the prosecution, said in a statement today that there would be no appeal because the trial judge had made a finding of fact in acquitting Abdul Razak.

"(There will be) no further comments in view that the case is continuing with the defence of Azilah (Hadri) and Sirul (Azhar Umar)," he said.

Justice Datuk Mohd Zaki Md Yasin acquitted and discharged Abdul Razak, 48, without calling for his defence on Oct 31.

Abdul Razak was alleged to have abetted Chief Insp Azilah Hadri, 32, and Corporal Sirul Azhar Umar, 36, who are charged with murdering Altantuya, 28, in Mukim Bukit Raja between 10pm on Oct 19, 2006, and 1am the following day.

The two Special Action Unit operatives are scheduled to enter their defence on Jan 15 next year.

*****
The prosecution confirmed Friday that it will not appeal the decision because the trial judge had made a finding of fact in acquitting Abdul Razak! Incredible logic, simply unbelievable. But then again did we really expect anything different?

Parliament: Cops Scared Of Crooks, So Police Beat Base Closed! Malaysia Boleh!

A police beat base in the Chow Kit area of downtown Kuala Lumpur was closed down because it was in a location that was considered unsafe, said Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar.

In a written reply to Dr Lo’ Lo’ Mohamad Ghazali (PAS-Titiwangsa), Syed Hamid said the beat base was located in a dirty area where there was a possibility of being exposed to contagious diseases.

The presence of criminals also posed a threat to the safety of police officers, he said.

Lo’ Lo’ had asked why the beat base on Jalan Haji Taib was closed considering the high number of vice-related activities in the area, as well as what kind action had been taken by the police to curb such activities.

Syed Hamid said that the police were looking for a new location to build a police beat base that would be able to give “guaranteed and continued service to the public.”

Lo’ Lo’s was the 30th question in the Order Paper and hence did not get a mention in the House during the daily one-hour Question Time. However, Dr Mohd Hatta Ramli (PAS-Kuala Krai) managed to raise it when he interjected during Azmin Ali’s (PKR-Gombak) speech during the debate on Budget 2009.

Dr Mohd Hatta said that if the police themselves felt unsafe in a beat base, then it would be even worse for the public.

“The minister has to resign if he is worried about the safety of police in that area. Maybe it would be better to put the beat base in army barracks,” he said.

Dr Mohd Hatta then managed to raise the issue again during his own debate on Budget 2009 saying that Syed Ali’s response was not rational.

“The police are there to make a place safe. If they themselves are scared and run away, then how can we hope for others to want to be there?

“It is embarassing and that is why the criminals will always be there,” he said.

Dr Mohd Hatta said if the place is dirty, then it is up to the police to organise gotong-royong activities to clean it up or if they did not want to then they should move to Putrajaya or Parliament.

“And what is this about contagious diseases on Jalan Haji Taib? The only kind of contagious diseases that are present there are sexually-transmitted ones.

“Is the minister scared that his charges will contract such diseases? That kind of thing is a matter of choice. In any case, if this is what he is worried about then we are worried that the police are not above this.”

Dr Mohd Hatta added that the police had to be brave people and that they were a different breed altogether when facing demonstrators. He said he hoped that the minister would clarify his written answer in the House as this is not the kind of police that the people want. (The Star Online)

***** A totally idiotic explanation by Syed Hamid. I wonder if he's been smoking anything strong lately. Will the cops agree with his findings? Or are they too busy trying to demonize Hindraf? Or perhaps they simply don't care what the public think of them anymore. Pathetic.

PM Says ACA 'Efficient'. Who Is He Trying To Kid?

From The Star
The Anti-Corruption Agency’s latest arrest of six people, including two Perak state exco members, is proof of the agency’s increased efficiency due to improvements to its enforcement capacity, says the Prime Minister.

Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi brushed off comments by some PKR people who questioned the timing of the arrest coming during the Permatang Pauh by-election campaign, and said it was a mere coincidence.

Abdullah said the ACA investigations and arrests had nothing to do with the Government.

“That is the ACA’s intelligence. Surely they cannot just watch someone committing a crime and do nothing. Because they know a crime has been committed, they act,” he said after chairing the 4th National Water Resource Council in Parliament yesterday.

He added that the ACA did not inform him prior to the arrest.

“There is no need to inform me. This is their job and I heard it from the news,” he said.
***** The whole report is littered with misleading statements and half-truths by Pak Lah.

Example 1:
The timing of the arrest coming during the Permatang Pauh by-election campaign is a mere coincidence. (Does he really expect us to believe that crap?)

Example 2:
The ACA investigations and arrests had nothing to do with the Government. (Oh really!?!)

Example 3:
The ACA cannot just watch someone committing a crime and do nothing. (Isn't that what these buggers have been doing all these years? Sleeping on the job and leaping into action and barking loudly when the government gives the green light)

Example 4: The ACA didn't inform me.
I heard it from the news!!!. (Come on man! Even the politically naive rural bumpkin will have a tough time digesting this piece of ridiculous bullshit)

" I'm A True Party Man," Says Najib

"I am a true party (Umno) man" and not the son who destroys the party that his father has helped to set up in a move to gain control of it, said Umno Deputy President Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

The eldest son of Malaysia's second prime minister Tun Abdul Razak Hussein said he "believed the transfer of power (in Umno) should be done in the traditional, conventional way rather than by creating factions".

He said this during a question-and-answer session after delivering a talk on "Malaysia in the Face of New Gobal Challenges" at Chatham House, the home of the Royal Institute of International Affairs, yesterday.

Najib, who is the Malaysian deputy prime minister, said this when asked by a participant why he had not taken over the leadership of the country after the poor performance of the Barisan Nasional (BN) and Umno in the recent general election.

The BN had failed to recapture Kelantan from PAS and lost Kedah, Penang, Perak and Selangor to the Pakatan Rakyat opposition alliance in the general election on March 8. It also failed to garner a two-third majority in Parliament.

Najib said people could give their views and that it was not a question of having courage or being a coward, but "it is just (that) as a person you have core values".

"And I believe what is important (is that) whatever position you take, it must be a core value personal to you. I come from a family where my father helped build the party, and I am not the son to destroy the party. I want to continue to build the party further," he said.

Najib said Umno was now at its lowest point and "if you create a serious fight for the leadership, Umno will be further weakened and not be able to face the challenges of (the next) general election. What is there in inheriting a position when you lose in the general election. I don't want to lead the party to defeat," he said.

Earlier, in his speech, Najib touched on the need to revitalise bilateral relations between Malaysia and Britain, saying that it was now "in a state of benign neglect". (Bernama)

***** I wonder what Dr Mahathir's reaction would be to this very 'tame' assertion by Najib?

Govt's Decision On Access Road Not Due To Opposition Pressure, Says Najib. Oh Really?

The federal government's decision for the disputed Bandar Mahkota Cheras toll-free access road to the Cheras-Kajang Highway to be kept open was not prompted by pressure from opposition political parties, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said Saturday.

The decision was made because the federal government was sensitive to the wishes of the people in the locality, he said.

"All this is the work of the Opposition which wants to politicise the issue," he told reporters when asked to comment on yesterday's Cabinet decision for the access road to be kept open until the issue between highway concessionaire Grand Saga Sdn Bhd and Bandar Mahkota Cheras developer Narajaya Sdn Bhd was settled in court.

Works Minister Datuk Mohd Zin Mohamed had announced yesterday that the Cabinet decided to allow the Bandar Mahkota Cheras residents to continue using the access road and disallow barriers to be rebuilt across the road.

Najib spoke to reporters after attending the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) at the Subang RMAF base near here.

He said the government would not give in to any quarters attempting to create chaos. "If there is chaos, the culprits will be prosecuted. The government will not take this lightly," he said.

The residents of Bandar Mahkota Cheras had protested the erecting of barriers across the access road by Grand Saga and had torn down the barriers each time they were put up.

Matters took a turn for the worse last Tuesday when several men alleged to be gangsters assaulted some of the residents as they were tearing down the barriers, resulting in several people -- one of them a newspaper photographer -- being injured.

On another matter, Najib said it was the desire of the government to buy new multirole combat aircraft in the future. "But that is just a proposal. We have to consider our capability and priority, including in terms of financial allocation," he said.

Najib, who is the Defence Minister, said if necessary the new aircraft would be bought in stages. (Bernama)

*****
If the federal government was genuinely 'sensitive to the wishes of the people' why the hell did the Cabinet wait this long before deciding to open the access road? Why were the police and FRU allowed to assault protesting citizens and how were hired thugs permitted to beat up these folks while the cops stood by and watched?

It looks like the government sprang into action only after the Selangor MB came to the area and supported the people's grievances.

As for
Najib saying that it was the 'desire of the government' to buy new multirole combat aircraft in the future, well .....

RM300 Mln To Organise Monsoon Cup Not From Oil Royalty, Says MB. Is This True?

The RM300 million spent on organising the Monsoon Cup since 2005 did not come from Terengganu's oil royalty, Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Said disclosed Tuesday.

He said the allocations came from the federal government which were channeled through the Youth and Sports Ministry, Tourism Ministry and Finance Ministry, while the state government contributed only RM4 million each year for the sailing competition.

"The allocations were not just used for organising the Monsoon Cup but also for building various infrastructure like hotels, a berth and car park at Pulau Duyong here.

"For instance, the cost of organising the event last year was only RM22.6 million," he told reporters after launching seven books published by the Terengganu Islamic Religious and Malay Custom Council (Maidam), here Tuesday.

Ahmad was asked to comment on claims that Terengganu's oil royalty or known as the federal government's special fund, had been used to organise the Monsoon Cup.

Ahmad said the cost of organising the Monsoon Cup was actually small compared with the benefits derived from it.

For example, he said, last year's event which was broadcast by international television sports channel ESPN drew more than 1.3 billion viewers worldwide.

"Imagine the cost we would incur if we were to buy international advertising space to promote Terengganu."

Ahmad said the Monsoon Cup would continue to be held until 2012 as in the agreement signed with the organisers, but this year's event would include more activities involving the local people.

Asked about plans after the agreement ends, Ahmad said the state government would "consider the matter when the time comes". (Bernama)

"Jets, Subs Purchased According To Procedure," Says Najib

The purchase of Sukhoi jets and Scorpene submarines were made based on proper Government procurement procedures, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said.

The Deputy Prime Minister said the procedures were checked by the central agency before the signing of the contract.

"I have already made statements previously. The purchase of the submarines was not something that was done without following acquisition procedures. The accounts of the joint venture companies were audited and people can look at it," he told reporters Tuesday after the Workers Day celebrations at the Defence Ministry level here.

Perimeker Sdn Bhd, which was said to have received the commission, is a joint venture between Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera (LTAT), Boustead Holdings Bhd and KS Ombak Laut Sdn Bhd.

"Don't make wild allegations. You must focus on actual facts," he said when asked to comment on Opposition Leader Datin Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail calling for the Government to set up an independent commission of inquiry into the purchase of Scorpene submarines and Sukhoi jets.

She claimed that the purchase of the two submarines worth RM4.5bil through negotiated tender had attracted attention as a commission exceeding RM540mil had been paid to Perimeker Sdn Bhd owned by Abdul Razak Baginda who was an adviser to Najib.

She said in the purchase of the Sukhoi jets worth RM3.2bil, IMT Defence Sdn Bhd, a company controlled by former Malacca chief minister Datuk Adib Adam, was paid a RM380mil commission.

Najib said in the case of Sukhoi, the Russian Government had the right to appoint the agent.

In his earlier statement, Najib had said that the allegations that commission was paid to Razak Baginda were baseless.

He explained that there was no commission paid to Perimeker as alleged by the opposition because it was done through direct negotiation in line with the Government acquisition procedures. (The Star)

Khir Toyol's Temple Destruction Story - Samy Vellu Tells Toyol To Stop Playing Politics

MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu has told former Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Khir Toyo to stop making baseless accusations as the reasons for the Barisan Nasional's loss of the state in the general election last month.

"He has said that I gave him the go-ahead to demolish a Hindu temple (at Kampung Rimba Jaya, near Shah Alam) on Nov 15. I wish to clarify that the temple was demolished in mid-October.

"Why didn't he mention that I was the one who pleaded to him and the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi) to stop the original planned demolition of the said temple. Don't blame others for your own folly and arrogance," Samy Vellu, the former Works Minister, said in a statement here Tuesday.

In an interview with Malaysiakini, an Internet-based news portal, Khir claimed that Samy Vellu had instructed him to demolish the temple as it was used for gatherings of the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) supporters.

"Samy Vellu called me on the night of Nov 15 and told me that the Hindraf people had infiltrated the temple and that it must be demolished that night itself," alleged Khir, who was Selangor menteri besar at the time.

"But the temple had already been demolished, with the deities already removed by the end of October and what is there to demolish anyway and why would I ask for a temple which has already been demolished to be demolished again," Samy Vellu retorted Tuesday.

He said Dr Khir should stop looking for scapegoats for the loss of the state to the opposition and take responsibility for "chasing away Indian votes from the BN".

"My request to him is to stop talking about all this and let us rebuild the BN and the component parties to get back the support of the people," he said, adding that he had great respect for Dr Khir's ability as a leader who had really turned around Selangor as a major developing state.

Meanwhile, MIC Information Chief Datuk M. Saravanan, who is also Federal Territories Deputy Minister, was more vocal against Dr Khir, telling the former menteri besar to stop making baseless accusations just to escape responsibility.

"We all know ... the whole world knows how Samy Vellu wanted to stop the demolition of the temple. We are not blind. He pleaded and pleaded but at that time the former menteri besar just refused to listen, not only to the MIC president but also to the prime minister.

"We wanted the demolition deferred but did he listen? He thought Indians were pushovers. He did not give it a second thought. If Samy Vellu has so much power that he could order the demolition of a temple, then why didn't Dr Khir listen to Samy Vellu when Samy Vellu wanted the planned demolition stopped in the first place," said Saravanan.

He said Dr Khir should first apologise to Indians in Selangor for his arrogance while in power and for treating the community as second-class citizens of the country during his tenure as menteri besar.

"We have it on record. Just look at the Tamil Nesan of Oct 31. In a statement, Dr Khir had said that he could not save the temple from being demolished because of a court order ... now he says Samy Vellu instructed him to do so," he said.

Having served as menteri besar of a state which has a multiracial electorate, Saravanan said, Dr Khir should have been more cautious in handling issues which involved race and religion but the former menteri besar was not so during his tenure.

He also told Dr Khir to stop dwelling on issues of the past and justify the wrongs of the past which he said were now haunting him.

Dr Khir had been blamed for the controversial demolition of the Kampung Rimba Jaya Hindu temple in Shah Alam, which caused Indian voters to turn their backs on the BN in the general election.

The incident has been cited by both opposition and BN members as a key factor in influencing the outcome of the March 8 polls.

The BN and Umno took the brunt of the voters' anger over this and other issues, resulting in the state government falling into opposition hands for the first time in election history. Dr Khir then resigned as Selangor Umno chief, and is now leader of the opposition in the state legislative assembly.

"My advice to him would be for him to start afresh. Only we know the damage caused by Dr Khir because of his arrogance. We are the ones facing Indian voters day in, day out. He can talk, he can blame (anyone) but at the end of the day, the community looks at us for answers," said Saravanan. (Bernama)

***** On reading the report about Toyol's accusation I had a feeling that the Toyol's version of the temple demolition didn't quite add up. Samy Vellu's strong rebuttal merely proves it.

It is so difficult to believe that an arrogant umnoputera like Toyol could be ordered around by Semi Value. Either there is something seriously wrong with Toyol's memory or he is trying to push the responsibility for Selangor's humiliating defeat to others, while at the same time hoping to divert the focus of attention from the Balkis debacle by creating a new controversy.

When is the ACA going to get off its butt and investigate the Toyol couple?

More Election Bluff By Samy Vellu

Samy Vellu Hails Abdullah's Pledges

MIC President Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu says the pledges made by Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi for the betterment of the Indian community showed the Barisan Nasional (BN) government looked after the interests of all races in the country.

Expressing MIC's appreciation to the Prime Minister, Samy Vellu said the pledges would also create more equitable opportunities for Indians.

" These are not mere promises but decisions that will be implemented with MIC's co-operation. We will ensure these decisions are carried our according to the Prime Minister's instructions in the next five years and thereafter," he said in a statement.

Abdullah made the pledges in advertisements placed by BN in Tamil newspapers today.

Among others, the Prime Minister promised that places of worship would be respected and protected, a pledge Samy Vellu said had given an "added assurance" to the Indian community.

The Works Minister said the party also welcomed Abdullah's pledge to take in more Indians into the civil service.

Other pledges include meeting educational needs of Indian children, further upgrading learning and teaching facilities in Tamil schools, increasing assistance for low-income and urban poor families and enhancing business opportunities for Indians.

" The Prime Minister's pledges have reinforced what the BN has been doing for the people for the past 50 years," added Samy Vellu who is defending his trade mark Sungai Siput parliamentary seat for the ninth term in Saturday's general election. (Bernama)

***** What Semi Value is trying to say is that NOTHING has been done thus far but Pak Lah has ASSURED that it will be done in the FUTURE! Period.

Assisting low-income citizens,
meeting educational needs of Indian children, providing help for mostly dilapidated and totally ignored Tamil schools, enhancing business opportunities for the marginalised poor, ensuring equal opportunities in civil service intakes and promotions and the safeguarding of temples should have been done as a matter of course in the past years.

But after decades of criminal neglect, the MIC being branded as a useless, self-serving party and Umno becoming synonymous with neo-apartheid practices, to claim that this or that will be done after the elections is nothing but a bogus attempt at duping the public. No one will believe this Semi Value fairy tale.

8,666 Registered Voters Aged More Than 100 On Malaysia's Electoral Roles!

Malaysia has found nearly 9,000 people aged more than 100 on its electoral rolls as it heads for general elections next month, raising suspicions that the books are "contaminated" with dead voters.

The Election Commission has found the names of 8,666 registered voters with birth dates from a century or more ago, the New Straits Times said on Friday, quoting commission secretary Kamaruzaman Mohd Noor.

They included two 128-year-olds, the daily said.

"As far as the commission is concerned, as of December 31 last year, these voters are still alive," Kamaruzaman said.

Opposition groups have complained for years that the rolls are outdated and vulnerable to fraud.

The Election Commission says it relies on a dead voter's family or officials to notify it of the death and so rolls can be outdated, but it denies scope for electoral fraud whereby someone casts more than one ballot by impersonating a dead voter.

At the elections on March 8, the commission will for the first time use indelible ink to dye a voter's finger to ensure he or she cannot attempt to cast a second ballot undetected.

"We suspect that many among them had in fact passed away but that the commission has not yet struck off their names from the rolls," said Wong Chin Huat, of electoral-reform lobby group Bersih, which includes several opposition parties.

"This suggests a high degree of contamination in the rolls, which will make it easy for people to impersonate them on polling day," Wong added.

Malaysia has 10.9 million voters and its population has a life expectancy of about 72 years for men and 76 for women.

Opposition party Parti-Islam Se-Malaysia, which first spotted the names of the two 128-year-old voters on the rolls of central Selangor state, said it was checking if they were still alive.

"We plan to apply to the Guinness Book of Records to list them as the world's oldest voters if they truly are still alive and kicking," said party spokesman Roslan Shahir said. (Reuters UK)

***** 8,666 centenarians! Wow! Even a country like Japan would be proud of those figures. I wonder why these healthy examples of longevity have not made it to our Malaysia Book of Records?
