Malaysians Should Count Blessings:

Malaysians should be thankful for the peace and prosperity that they enjoy despite uncertainties in world politics, said Information Minister Datuk Zainuddin Maidin.

The favourable situation prevailed in Malaysia because the government was a caring and responsible one, he said at the opening of a "Leader with the People Programme" at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Sama Gagah, here Saturday.

He said that despite the current uncertainties in international politics and a declining global economy, Malaysians were not deprived of their basic needs.

He pointed out that the people were still able to enjoy excellent social, educational, health, communications and telecommunication facilities.

"The government will always adopt pragmatic approaches to ensure the people are not unduly burdened," he said.

He also said that the people should be thankful that the country had a caring Prime Minister in the person of Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

National development also cannot be sustained if it was not anchored on high moral and spiritual values, he said, adding that the people needed to strive harder to realise national integration by putting the national interest above everything else, including political allegiance.
