More Umno Leaders Openly Support Abdullah.

Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's transparent attitude should be respected, said UMNO vice president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. "Since becoming Prime Minister, he has shown transparency. I think this is a good virtue shown by him as Prime Minister and UMNO President. "However, no one should take advantage of (this openness) to slander (the government) or create issues that can become a liability to the government," he said.

Muhyiddin, who is Agriculture and Agro-Based Industries Minister, was commenting on Abdullah's statement Thursday, when he said that he welcomed constructive criticisms of his leadership and government. He said criticisms should be constructive and done without malice.

"The government always welcomes good ideas and good intention. I think we have to accept constructive criticisms in good faith. As the Prime Minister said, the focus of his administration is to bring development to the country and the people." On criticisms levelled against UMNO, Muhyiddin said the party was treating it as "part of current political developments". "The government is prepared to face it (criticism)... We are only worried that the if the baseless criticism continues, it may adversely affect (party) image and integrity and the future of the country," he said.

Meanwhile, Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said contentious issues raised by UMNO delegates at the divisional meetings will be analysed so that the issues can be resolved.

In Baling, KEDAH, Baling UMNO Youth head Datuk Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim urged former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to stop criticising the government, his successor and UMNO Youth deputy chief Khairy Jamaludin. "We still love Tun (Dr Mahathir). Any confusion should be resolved in a family manner. "If he continues to attack UMNO leadership, it will cause greater confusion and in the end, he will lose (public) respect as former party and national leader," he said.

**** Although it does not look coordinated the very fact that they are all speaking up in one voice and saying almost the same things, shows that they are probably at the end of the tether as far as Dr Mahahtir is concerned. Especially to note is the caution by the Baling UMNO youth leader who said in no uncertain terms that Dr M will lose respect if he prolongs this line of action. So far they have all refrained from directly attacking Mahathir due to his seniority and the traditonal Malay respect for elders. How long they will or can remain in this mode is not known. Hopefully some sort of solution can be found before this turns very unpleasant.
