Najib Reiterates Unwavering Support For Abdullah

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today reiterated his unwavering support to Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi as the leader of the government and Umno despite calls to the prime minister pressuring him to step down.

He said Abdullah still commanded the support and respect of the Cabinet and Umno members for his leadership.

"The prime minister has expressed his intention to continue leading the nation as he still enjoys the support and respect in the Cabinet and among party members.

"He (Abdullah) has decided to continue with his leadership and has the right to do so," he told reporters.

Najib, who is also Defence Minister, was asked to comment on Abdullah's denial to speculations that he would step down as prime minister.

Abdullah reiterated his stand yesterday that he would not run away from his responsibilities as the prime minister.

Several quarters, including Abdullah's predecessor Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, had asked him to resign to assume responsibility for the Barisan Nasional's (BN) poor showing in last month's general election.

The BN lost its long-held two-thirds majority in Parliament after winning only 140 of the 222 parliamentary seats while the Opposition captured 82 seats.

It also lost control of Penang, Perak, Selangor and Kedah besides failing to regain Kelantan from PAS.

Najib said demands for the prime minister to step down were merely the views of certain quarters while he, as the "second man" in the government, would help Abdullah to reinvent Umno and restore the people's trust and confidence in the government.

"We'll work together as a team in the Cabinet and in Umno. This will be our primary task to be focused on," he added. (Bernama)

***** With this open and firm reiteration of his loyalty to Pak Lah, it is obvious that Najib has decided to burn his bridges behind him as far as Dr Mahathir is concerned. After Dr M had recently raised doubts about his support for Najib, the DPM has made a calculated move and has cast his lot with the PM. Interesting days lie ahead.

Najib has no choice but to go down the sinking ship with Pak Lah.

Pak Lah still holds all cards on the "Mongolian Submarine" case - Najib would be destroyed if he chose to switch camps.

Why do you think Najib looks so very glum these days - he's damned if he does, damned if he doesn't.

either that, or the fact that Mahathir is sinking ship too because Malaysians who used to respect the old man are now sick of him always trying to blame other people so that he (thinks he can) cover up his misdeeds. shameless. he should be brought to justice for what he did not to the country--get rid or cronyism and corruption to name just two.

typical of this sissified coward to run away at first sign of trouble now caught with pants down,
lets all wait impatiently for his coming demise

TDM had taught Naj a very good lesson years ago. Better to work with a well Known Devil than an Unknown Angel. But in this case, he knew both and he also knows that the "Angel" is actually Satan in disguise.

Better that he still has his balls remain caught rather than to be cut off completely should he switch over. TDM just want to use him to make Muk's path to the throne easier and faster.

I would think that Naj has chosen his 10% chance of survival than to cross over with NO chance at all of surviving. He may look glum but he certainly isn't dumb.
