'People's Alliance' Merely A Political Ambition, Says Mahdzir
The use of the term "Pakatan Rakyat" or "People's Alliance" to portray the agreement reached upon by Parti KeAdilan Rakyat (PKR), the DAP and PAS is nothing more than a political ambition to mislead the people, said Kedah Umno Liaison chairman Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid.
He said the alliance lacked clarity and sincerity because each political party in the coalition had their respective principles and direction which differed from one another.
"PAS and the DAP are clearly extreme in their stand right from the beginning which differed from the Barisan Nasional (BN)," said Mahdzir, who was the former Kedah Menteri Besar.
Commenting on the agreement reached by the three political parties to use the term "Pakatan Rakyat" which was announced by PKR advisor Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim yesterday, he said it was not as easy as it was pictured to be.
"The BN coalition started with the Alliance even before the independence and had taken such a long time, and furthermore, there are now many more parties especially in Sabah and Sarawak," said Mahdzir, who is also the Kedah BN chairman.
He said the coalition concept based on mutual understanding and power-sharing was the equitable reality proven by the BN all this while.
"If Haji Hadi (PAS president) and Karpal Singh (DAP) were to issue extremist statements which were contradictory to the Pakatan Rakyat's direction, how are they to administer the country peacefully," Mahdzir added.
In MELAKA, Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam said the people should not be easily influenced by the political ploy adopted by the Pakatan Rakyat in forming the alliance.
He said the Pakatan Rakyat was merely a political gimmick to deceive the people by imitating the BN concept. "They (the Pakatan Rakyat) are actually incapable of administering their states what more the country," said Mohd Ali, who is also Melaka Chief Minister. (Bernama)
***** One can infer from the doubts expressed above, that the Umno bigwigs are getting a bit frightened and a little envious of the pace at which the Pakatan Rakyat has come to being. While Umno can keep on whining and saying that it is a political ploy etc. the truth is that the new Pakatan is a far, far better alternative than that represented by Umno and its coalition slaves.

PR is a more viable version than BN. PR component parties work on equal basis. Under BN, only UMNO talks, other parties can either say yes or plead for some some mercy for their communities. Malaysians can see this clearly.
UNMO / BN unravelling
Their leaders are babbling
The People's Alliance is happening
Everyone is waving and clapping
The once almighty have fallen, others will follow.
The People's Alliance is more than they can swallow!
Mahdzir Khalid and M.Ali Rustam came out (but this time, not with the parangs yet), condemning the formation of PR.
What M Ali Rustam said, was his standard fare (words without substance), he called PR a political ploy and a political gimmick. Wonder how he comes to the belief that the PR cannot actually run the states let alone the country. The PR state Governments have only been there a month. If BN had been doing so well why did the rakyat gave it the boots? The rakyat believes the PR cannot do any worse than the BN.
Compared to what the PR is trying to hammer together, is the BN model any better?
The rakyat does not seem to think so. It is precisely because of the coalition that the component parties in the BN suffered such a humilating defeat at the hands of the rakyat.
In the BN set-up, UMNO is seen as the big brother (ever domineering and bullying).
The rakyat perceives UMNO as practising the 'Animal Farm' concept of 'all are equal but some are more equal than others'.
The rakyat also views UMNO as harsh and authortarian in its treatment of its component partners.
The rakyat resents its intimidating atttitude when reprimanding its partners.
The relationship is seen more of a servant-master relationship than that of a equal-partner relationship.
Though Mahdzir Khalid and M. Ali Rustam are proud of the BN model but this is not shared by the rakyat. It is prepared to give the PR a chance.
Now the collapsed and 'Susah Hati' Umno Buayas such as Mahdzir Khalid and Ali Rustam and other Umno Crooks are trying to attack the newly formed Pakatan Rakyat by whichever means out of jealousy and busuh hati.
Let them say whatever lah. They will never change their tune. The relaity is that BN in General & UMNO in Particular are on their way OUT!
Come the 13th GE (good number for Pak Lah!), we will vote them out forever!
At last Malaysians can look forward to a TRULY ONE & UNITED BANGSA MALAYSIA!
I am sorry but, I can't take a man who lost his state to the opposition seriously.
can
UMNO is still mired in its "Me master - You take orders from me" mentality.
