Machap By-elections: Barisan Nasional Wins.

The Barisan Nasional retained the Machap state seat in Melaka with a majority of 4,081 votes in a by-election today. The BN candidate polled 5,533 votes while the DAP challenger garnered 1,452 votes. There were a total of 166 spoilt votes.

Machap is a BN stronghold where in the last general election, its candidate, Datuk Poh Ah Tiam, won with a 4,562 vote-majority, defeating Liou Chen Kuang from the DAP. Poh died on March 15.

This time, the BN fielded Lai Meng Chong, 56, a local lad, who faced the same DAP candidate.

A local political observer said the excellent service rendered by the late Poh, who was Melaka Housing, Local Government, Environment and Transport Committee chairman, in Machap over the past 12 years, would not be easily forgotten by the residents.

The Machap constituency has 9,623 voters comprising Chinese (46.07 per cent), Malays (38.65 per cent), Indians (14.13 per cent) and other races (1.15 per cent).

The results were announced at 8.22pm by Returning Officer Hasim Ismail at the Machap Japerun complex, the vote-tallying centre for the by-election.

Over the next few days be prepared to listen and and read over the mainstream media, a lot of 'Boleh' statements and speeches. While that in itself is harmless, let us not forget that the electorate has voted in a BN candidate with the hope that things will change for the better for everyone. We hope that the BN will not let them down.

It is the same old story especially with the chinese, a lot of disgrudrement, a lot of complains, but when it comes to make the decisive change they have no guts.
They deserve the policies of the present govt.

Like a longtime suffering patient with terminal sickness, either in coma or awake, suddenly become better! Everybody will be in surprise and hoping for the best.

But the permanent fate always deceives and belies the sudden change for the better. Most Chinese believe (and it happens too frequently to dispprove), "the patient dies!"

The calm before the storm.

Was it a clean and fair level playing field? Was it a honorable win?

Maybe a good carnival with all wild animals free out of the zoo. And 5533 spectators backing the binating nasional. Hope they can sleep with a free conscience at night!!
