Immigration Department Enforcement Director's Dream. I Hope It Comes True.

Immigration Department strongman Datuk Ishak Mohamed has a dream: To see a Malaysian caned for harbouring or employing illegals.

This, the department’s enforcement director said, was the only way Malaysians would learn not to break the law.

He said Malaysians who harboured or employed illegals and unscrupulous employment agents were responsible for the influx of illegal workers in the country.

“They are the targets of our campaign this year as they are the two primary pull-factors for illegals.

“We cannot stamp out the problem of illegals if we do not go after them. So this year, we will go after these people,” he said after a visit to the newly-established Tanah Merah Immigration Court here.

Ishak was referring to a provision in the Immigration Act 1963 which provides for mandatory caning for those found guilty of harbouring illegal workers.

Ishak made headlines on Dec 27 when he announced that an order for the arrest of 12 chief executive officers of companies known to harbour illegal workers had been issued.

He said the department was concentrating on uprooting the syndicates and the companies responsible for the influx of illegals.

On whether any of the 12 had been picked up, Ishak said most had come forward to iron out problem relating to foreign workers.

“A majority of them called me the next morning. Most of the problems stemmed from certificates from Fomema Sdn Bhd,” Ishak said, declining to elaborate. Fomema is a company tasked with screening the health of foreign workers.

On a related matter, Ishak said over 400 Immigration-related offence cases have been settled since the Immigration Courts were set up on Dec 15 last year. (NST)

****** The enforcement director is right - the only language these rich criminals understand is pain and punishment. For too long our legal authorities have let off lightly, Malaysians who harbour illegal aliens. Severely punish a few and the others will fall in line. These criminals don't deserve any mercy and should be treated in the same manner as we do the illegal workers. While at it, Ishak should also throughly investigate his own officers without whose complicity it would be difficult to get away with it so often.

I estimate very conservatively that there are more than 1million Indonesians working illegally in M'sia. These include those working as maids, on plantations and on construction sites. If the govt really wants to send them all home, these industries would slow to a trickle overnight as M'sians would not want those jobs. So, does the M'sian govt really have the conviction to send them home, or punish those who harbour them?

Very good point that you have brought up blueheeler. I personally feel that there will be a lot of lip-service and no follow-up.

Very good.

Let's start by caning the Malaysian government officials for issuing blue IC's to Indon illegals.
