Beware, Fake RM5 Notes In Circulation

If you have a RM5 note in your wallet, you may want to take it out for a closer inspection.

Two cases of fake RM5 notes have emerged at the Kepong Baru market here. A vegetable seller and a fruit trader realised that the RM5 notes they had were fakes when they noticed the faded prints and the missing landmarks on the back of the notes.

The two traders, who declined to be named, showed the notes to Kepong Baru Hawker Association vice-president, Ng Yow Lam.

“I was shocked to see that the colours were faded and the Kuala Lumpur International Airport design was missing,” Ng said at a Press conference.

To prove his allegations, Ng wet the fake note and rubbed on it. Within seconds, the ink on the RM5 note started to fade and Ng’s thumb was stained green.

Kepong Gerakan Youth chief Lau Hoi Keong, who called for the Press conference, expressed concern over the existence of such notes. (NST)

***** Therefore it is best to either not accept RM5 notes until the authorities come out with some assurance and information on the subject or if in doubt you should perform the 'wet' test as above. It could have been worse though; imagine being saddled with a wad of fake RM50 notes!
