Batu Talam By-Election. What Does The BN And PAS Strategy Indicate?

So by-election time is coming and the lucky constituency is Batu Talam in Pahang. Why lucky? Because if we go by past experience in by-elections, BN will ply the fortunate voters with so much goodies that they won't have a choice but to vote in the ruling party. This formula works most of the time. Once in a while however it dramatically backfires.

The state seat by the way fell vacant following the death of Datuk Tengku Paris Tengku Razlan, 65, of rectal cancer last Dec 27. Judging by the press reports so far it looks like PAS doesn't hold out much hope of winning when it calmly stated that it will treat the by-election as a
"Warm Up"

Meanwhile it looks as if the BN won't be taking any chances, given the low morale, confidence and mood of the people in general. The Barisan leadership knows that even in better times before they had lost by-elections. Therefore a less than inspiring show thus far by the current government must worry them somewhat. It is because of this doubt perhaps that Najib asked the Barisan to
To Activate Its Election Machinery.

So who's going to triumph or face defeat isn't quite clear at this early stage. But in the end I suppose it is the voters' choice.

You mentioned "BN will ply the fortunate voters with so much goodies that they won't have a choice but to vote in the ruling party".

Sounds vaguely like the situation in a country south of west M'sia...
