Zainuddin Maidin, Like Rais Yatim, Offers Third World Solution For First World Concept.
Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) will collaborate with Malay daily newspaper Utusan Malaysia to come out with its own ratings without having to depend on other agencies, Information Minister Datuk Zainuddin Maidin said Wednesday night. "We do not trust ratings given by other agencies. An announcement on this partnership will be made soon.
"Now we have acquired additional strength where all RTM programmes will be advertised in Utusan every week. Utusan will become our advertising agent," he told the media when breaking fast at the International Broadcasting Centre building here. Through the partnership, viewers could refer to Utusan Malaysia to know the RTM ratings from time to time.
Zainuddin added that although RTM would have to "spend a little more", the station had its own way of meeting the cost of the initiative.
**** There is something seriously wrong with some of our leaders. They are either too impatient for success or intolerant of not being given special preference. I suppose having had their way in most things all their life, when now suddenly confronted with obstacles to their 'vision,' they get all hot under the collar and come up with stupid ideas. The general reaction of these pemimpin to such 'hindrance' is either to get rid of it, substitute it with something more 'pliant' or change all the rules governing it.
A few days ago I had posted on the Rais Yatim Solution, where just because Unesco has not recognised Malacca and Penang as heritage sites he wants to form an Asian chapter of Unesco to avoid the strict parameters set by them. If you cannot beat them, then remove them was the crux of his intention.
In the same intolerant style, our Lord Zam wants to remove the influence of rating agencies who have not been giving high marks to RTM much to his dislike and ire. He initially tried to sideline the stricter agencies and attempted to merge the others by offering plum government 'incentives' but now it looks like that idiotic attempt has apparently failed.
But Lord Zam not being one to give up easily came up with another brilliant solution. If none of the established rating agencies want to play ball, no problem. He'd create his own!! And that is exactly what he has done in collaboration with Utusan Malaysia.
This type of avoiding difficult and tricky situations, instead of pulling up your socks and working more determinedly to overcome them, is part of the deep malaise permeating the very fabric of the nation. If our leaders are doing it then how can they expect the general public to be any better?

long jaafar, I like your description of Zam when you say that he goes in the opposite direction of thinking outside the box!
Look at the daily circulation of the Utusan Malaysia & see how many readership it has. Zam can close his door & play his own game, but people like us wouldn't care. He is cheating himself. What an idiot he is!
hey Zany, way to go man. This is simply the spirit of self esteemed - 'even when no one like me, I still love myself' kind of spirit. Chinese called it "Ah Q" spirit.
This is the year I call 'right hand giving, left hand receiving', seems that this is the style now to our government. So what?
