RM4.5m Renovation To Negeri Sembilan MB's House. Is It True?

State opposition leader Loke Siew Fook, who is DAP assemblyman for Lobak thinks so. In fact a complaint has been made to the state Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) on the renovation to the official residence of Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, said to cost RM4.5 million.

He made the verbal complaint based on the Auditor-General's Report 2005 which stated that the renovation was funded from the RM41.4 million Special Fund allocated in 2004 and 2005 to the state to be disbursed to the deserving.

According to the AG's report, Negri Sembilan received special funds amounting to RM41.4 million and that up to the end of last year, RM5.44 million of this amount had been spent.

Speaking to reporters outside the ACA office, Loke said he made the complaint based on the A-G's Report which said "the expenditure did not meet the objectives for which the Special Fund was given". The report said an audit check showed RM440,000 was used to pay for furniture for the Port Dickson district office administrative complex and RM4.5 million to renovate the state guest house to be used as the official residence of the mentri besar.

State ACA director Mohd Yusoff Md Zain, when contacted, confirmed receiving a complaint from Loke.

In an immediate response to the complaint, Mohamad said the state was allocated various special funds and the special fund for the renovation did not touch the RM41.4 million. "We are strict and we don't touch the special fund allocated for single mothers, students and the poor.

The special fund used to pay for the renovation was in the form of a specific warrant and not from the said special fund. "I applied for the allocation through the Finance Ministry and RM4.5 million was approved," said Mohamad, when met after launching a gotong-royong campaign for Seremban residents.

**** So the claim of impropriety against the Menteri Besar has been made, both by the DAP leader and by the Auditor-General's Report 2005. The MB has given some bullshit as an excuse and did not even attempt to answer why it needs RM4.5 million to renovate his residence. Who does he think he is? The Sultan of Brunei? The reality of the situation and in fact the tragedy is, nothing will be done either in the way of investigation nor is anyone going to be charged for robbing money meant for the poor. And this is the same 'generous' menteri besar who gave free tickets to tens of thousands of soccer fans and successfully filled an an entire stadium, in order to prevent them from attending Mahathir's ceramah. I wonder from which fund the money for those tickets came from? From special funds for the orphans, mentally and physically handicapped, the blind, or plain hardcore poor? Your guess is as good as mine.

It is indeed really sad that these politicians come in promising so much and hold out great hope for many, only to end up as bad apples. Is Mohd Khir Toyo listening?
