Out of court settlement in one month, Syariah Court tells Effendi Norwawi and ex-wife.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Mohd Effendi Norwawi and his former wife, Zariah Hashim @ Farida Effendi, were given one month by the Syariah High Court here to reach an out of court settlement their property dispute.

Syarie Judge Mohamad Shakir Abdul Hamid fixed Sept 14 for mention after the counsels for both parties said they were willing to go for an out of court settlement for properties worth RM50 million that had been jointly acquired during their marriage.

The case had dragged on since the middle of last year.

In the proceedings earlier, Effendi's counsel Kamar Ainiah Kamaruzaman had told the court that Effendi had transferred some of his assets to Zariah and there was no question of Effendi having committed contempt-of-court.

He said that Effendi had never received a show cause notice from the court previously and that on Tuesday (Aug 8), he had filed for a contempt-of-court order issued against him on April 26 to be set aside.

The court had on April 26, issued a show cause letter to Effendi asking why he should not be jailed for failing to execute his part of the agreement as per the court's decision pertaining to the couple's divorce.

According to the divorce agreement signed on Jan 28, 2005, Effendi, 58, agreed to hand over his property in Sarawak and the Peninsula which were free from burdens to his former wife.

Also agreed was that Zariah would get 100 per cent of his shares in Encorp Utility Sdn Bhd, and that she would be given marital compensation ("edah" and "mutaah") of RM50,000 and three houses, including those bought in London.

Meanwhile, outside the court, Kamar Ainiah told reporters that the minister had handed over 10 properties to Zariah, another 10 were being processed in the Land Office while seven pieces of land (all in Sarawak) could not be handed over to her due to technical problems.

The 20 properties, (those handed over and in the process) were valued at RM20 million, she said.

On Encorp, Kamar Ainiah said Effendi was holding talks with the other share- holders of the company and was prepared to pay the necessary arrears to Zariah.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department has got that much of assests and money ? Even if he had worked for 30 years at an average it works out to, RM1,666,666.00 per year or RM138,000.00 a month.
And this is only a settlement sum ,say about 50% of their joint declared assets! Whooa.... man ,this is all to much for a government servant ! Imagine the properties in London too ?
Does his boss know about this? And this is one man only.... it bothers me to know the worth of the entire cabinet !
Phew... I'll try and sleep on the measly RM500.00 deposited cheque I'm waiting to clear from yesterday !!!
Good-nite.
