Khairy Rips His Accusers.
Umno Youth vice head Khairy Jamaluddin said Sunday that he sold his entire shares in ECM Libra Avenue Bhd to focus on politics and incurred a loss of between RM100,000 and RM200,000. "I made the decision to get out of the company voluntarily. "I want to focus hundred per cent on politics because there's a lot of work to be done in the increasingly challenging situation," he said on his sale of 10.2 million shares representing 1.23 per cent equity in the investment and share brokerage firm at 65 sen per share to Hikkaya Jaya Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of AmcorpGroup Bhd. He bought them at 71 sen a share in December last year.
Speaking to reporters after opening the Paya Besar Umno Youth, Wanita and Puteri delegates meetings here, he said despite bearing losses, he was proud to have sold the shares to a company involved in the financial industry and controlled by a Malay entrepreneur even though he had received better offers from non-Bumiputera companies.
"I want to ensure there is no dilution of shareholding by the Malays if the shares go to a company controlled by a Malay," he said. Khairy said he left the company so that its image in the financial services industry would not be tarnished. "I don't want other shareholders to be affected by what he is facing. It's not fair to the shareholders," he said.
He said various parties had cast a suspicion towards him especially because he was the son-in-law of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, and the sale would ensure all criticisms pertaining to the matter would end.
"Because of this I must be whiter than white. I'm willing to sacrifice not only for the company but because of other people's perception and my focus on politics," he said.
He said the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) had ruled that the merger between ECM Libra Bhd and Avenue Capital Resources Bhd that gave birth to ECM Libra Avenue Bhd, was according to procedure. The PAC's concern was only on the fact that the government had lost control over Avenue Capital which was a government-linked company, he said. "I don't feel any pressure from the PAC's investigation. I think the PAC have done their job and since no one has been found in the wrong, I think the merger is the best step for the two companies," he said.
In his speech, Khairy likened people who were still unsatisfied with Abdullah's replies to several issues and the cancellation of several projects, as dogs barking at hills. The queries should end because such issues such as the cancellation of projects, would not be a loss for the people and the country, he said.
Khairy said the prime minister had placed the Ninth Malaysia Plan as a platform to bring about changes and significant success to the people and the country.
He did not want Abdullah's leadership and the government's credibility to continue to be questioned because they would cause a split in the party and give advantage to the opposition. "Umno is a sacred party. Don't allow the opposition to sit back and enjoy watching the party ultimately destroying itself," he said.
**** Would it be then right to say that while Khairy ensured that the shares went to a Malay concern, Mokhzani sold out to the Singaporeans?

Ungratefulness seems to be the 'malay' norm when it comes to garnering for support within UMNO and praising and talking about racial unity when it comes to election time.
