Are we turning into a nation of bribetakers?

Chuck the Moral Studies book into the cupboard for it has done precious little for our kids. We are in danger of raising a nation of committed bribe-takers!

Nearly 30 per cent of the young generation are willing to practice and accept graft if they have the power and are entrusted to run any organisation or institution, a local study shows.

The study by the Integrity Institute of Malaysia (IIM) reveals that youths are not appalled at the corruption and according to IIM president Datuk Seri Dr Isahak Yeop Mohamad Shar, this could destroy the country if not checked.

"What the study reveals is very worrying," he said at a seminar jointly organised by the IIM and National Council of Women's Organisations here Monday. The seminar was opened by Alor Star Mayor Datuk Wira Yusof Nayan.

"Imagine if 30 per cent of the youths become national leaders and administrators or managers of particular institutions. What will happen to the country if they are given power!

The National Integrity Plan, launched by the government in April 2004, should be understood to contain moral decadence of the youth.

**** So all you parents who think that you are raising future national 'leaders' please set a good example to your kids. If you do take bribes at least make sure your children don't know about it. That way you can pretend to have the moral authority to reprimand them in case they get caught while their palms are being greased.

I think it is a disgrace that 30% of kids would have no qualms about receiving bribes. Who should we blame apart from the parents? Would someone out there like to provide a list of the guilty?

It takes two to complete a bribery. Why the focus on the taker? What about the doer? It's not that one is a lesser evil of the two. If we are to reduce this, we have to start tackling both the takers and the doers.

This is the 'tumor'that has been growing in our society for more then 22 years !Now it has become a full blown and 'out of control' cancer that we have all learnt to accept as normal. We cannot 'nip it at the bud' because the root of corruption has penetrated all parts of our society for so long and man.. lets stop being hypocrites, for God's sake !Cut this crap about being holier then thou ignorance !
I deal with a lot of statutory bodies in my course of work and take it from me...I am only guilty by association !
Botak said..'Don't blame the 'taker' but also the 'giver'...Bullshit!man..IF you are a servant of the government, and you have taken the oath to uphold the rukun-negera when in employ of the government to serve God, King and Nation,YOU serve man..and punish those who flaunt the law by offering the bribe !
As long as one refuses to put his hand out to receive what is offered,he IS the lesser evil of the two !
In the meantime... Cheers man !!
