Major Reshuffle In Police On IGP's Retirement
The police will undergo a major reshuffle of senior officers when Inspector-General Tan Sri Mohd Bakri Omar retires in October, said Deputy Minister of Internal Security Datuk Mohd Johari Baharum. The proposed changes were being considered.
Mohd Bakri was appointed to the top police post on Nov 6, 2003. He is expected to be succeeded by his deputy Tan Sri Musa Hassan. Johari praised the police for proposing a plan of action to improve the efficiency and professionalism of the force. Musa announced the five-year plan, which was being finalised, yesterday and said it was aimed at enhancing the police's integrity and credibility.
**** One thing is for sure and that is Musa Hassan, friend of the government, is definitely going to be IGP. Sometime earlier he had very clearly expressed his support for implementing the IPCMC. That would have confirmed and cleared his path to the IG's chair.
What would be interesting to see will be who gets the chop and which lucky officers are given 'express' promotions. There were many who had openly opposed the IPCMC and the ministry bigwigs know who they are.
In any case October is still a few months away and previously 'errant' officers can still make amends by either sucking up to Musa or some highly placed politician. This is the route which always works and ensures that officers don't fall out of line. I suppose that after Bakri leaves its "all's well that ends well." At least for most of them anyway.
