DBKL - PM Strikes Back.
Just in from BERNAMA: Abdullah Orders DBKL To Re-examine Approval For Hill Development.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi ordered the Kuala Lumpur Datuk Bandar Datuk Ruslin Hasan to look into the approvals given for development on slopes near Kampung Pasir, Hulu Klang. He said though the approval was given by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) before the landslide in Kampung Pasir, it was only wise to re-examine the approvals. "I will ask the Datuk Bandar to go and see for himself," he told reporters after officiating the Territorial Army's Perdana Company for the Kepala Batas Parliamentary constituency, Nibong Tebal and Batu Kawan areas at the Bertam Sports Complex here Sunday.
He said this when asked on concerns over DBKL's approval for development projects on the steep slopes in Bukit Mas, 100 metres from Kampung Pasir where a landslide on Wednesday killed four people. Abdullah said, if the area is to be developed, DBKL must conduct a thorough study to avoid any untoward incident. He said residents can always inform DBKL if there were problems in areas earmarked for development. The media today reported the site approved by DBKL for a seven story apartment and a six storey town villa is only several metres away from the Bukit Mas water retention pond. The area is under DBKL's jurisdiction while Kampung Pasir is under the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ).
It's nice to know that this too has caught the attention of Pak Lah. Now let us see what new excuses DBKL will come out with to continue the hillslope project. The trouble is that these chaps have the ready made 'we will investigate, consult, confer and then report' line as a weapon of defence and hope that'll fend off pesky irritants like me among others.
