Another Khir Toyo Sandiwara?
'Fuming MB blames greedy developers for landslide' is the headline.
Go through all applications for hill slope development with a fine toothcomb!
That's the order to the relevant authorities from a fuming Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Khir Toyo who was at Kampung Pasir in Ulu Klang – the site of the latest major landslide in an area prone to such occurrences.
Dr Khir put the blame squarely on greedy developers, contractors and consultants, and ordered the proper authorities to review projects situated in high gradient areas. “I am fed up with the developers' attitude. In this case (Kampung Pasir landslide) the state government’s technical team foresaw the problem and had recommended the developer take mitigation measures to prevent a landslide.
“But they did not heed the call, and I am coming down hard on the developer of this project. I will make sure that future projects involving steep gradient areas are scrutinized with a fine toothcomb,” he told The Star in an interview.
****Come, come Mentri Besar is it fair to solely blame the developer? Haven't your men been sleeping on the job or worse, could they have been on the take from a privately very 'generous' developer? If the government's technical team actually foresaw the problem, as you put it, then why did the bumbling idiots not do anything? Oh yes, I forgot, they had recommended the developer take mitigation measures to prevent a landslide. Great. Recommend and then forget. Don't they know what is meant by follow-up? Or does adequate 'compensation' in cash and kind cause temporary amnesia?
You shamelessly say that the developer did not heed the call of your technical team. How can anyone not heed the call of a government agency unless some extraneous interference has been allowed to enter the equation? First check (if it is not you of course!) whether any of your state exco members had anything to do with the 'carelessness' displayed by the monitoring side. Then go down the line with a 'fine toothcomb' and look at your state assemblymen and your senior government officers. For all you know the 'missing link' may be there.
Many of these developers are greedy, that all of us know from the news as well as our own personal experiences. We don't need a lesson from you on that score. But are all of your men clean? That you have to let us know. Just ranting or 'fuming' as the press called it, after lives have been lost and property destroyed is no consolation at all. Come down hard on the developer, as you promised, but also come down equally hard on your men for dereliction of duty. You also assured that future projects involving steep gradient areas are scrutinized with a fine toothcomb. That won't do. ALL projects whether on steep gradient or no gradient should be scrutinized to save the people from not only greedy developers but greedy government officials as well. Until such time we are convinced of that, this 'fuming' of yours will be filed under 'sandiwara' for quick retrieval when the next tragedy occurs in Selangor.
