PAS Inviting Non-Muslims To Its Muktamar. After Bar Council Forum Fiasco Will There Be Any Takers?
From The Star Online
The incident has reaffirmed longstanding doubts about the sincerity of both Umno and PAS when it comes to the constitutional rights of non-Muslims. When push comes to shove PAS and Umno have clearly demonstrated that despite their differences, they are in reality, two sides of the same coin.
Given this sorry situation, which non-Muslim in his right mind would want to attend the muktamar of those who are blind to the religious travails, feelings and apprehensions of others?
PAS is inviting a large number of non-Muslim observers to its annual muktamar (gathering) which takes place this Friday to Sunday.***** The manner in which the various Malay-Muslim groups ganged up on the Bar Council's 'Conversion to Islam' forum must have to some extent shaken the sensibilities of most non-Muslims, with the exception of course of Saudara Hu Phang Chiau and his 'PAS Supporters Club.'
Party secretary-general Datuk Kamaruddin Jaafar said five bus-loads of non-Muslims have been invited to observe the muktamar, which marks a first for PAS.
Most of the observers are registered members of the PAS Supporters Club, which is headed by ex-journalist Hu Phang Chiau.
Kamaruddin said the move was to impress upon non-Muslims that PAS appreciated their support and to counter the image of the party as an extremist Muslim movement.
According to the party constitution, PAS can only admit Muslims as full members.
The party has also extended invitations to PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang, but Kamaruddin admitted they may not be able to attended because the dates clashed with the campaigning period of the Permatang Pauh parliamentary by-election.

Maybe saudara Hu Phang Chiau can explain to us Non-Muslims why a debate on "Conversion to Islam" is considered as "threatening" Islam? Maybe saudara Hu can ask his Masters (yes Masters since saudara Hu is not cannot be a full member!) why they & their UMNO bretheren are so scared of open discussion? Maybe saudara Hu can also explain to us Non-Muslims who voted for PAS in the last GE why we should continue to support PAS?
This is crazy. They are getting desperate for winning against the BN, till they forgot about their party policy and their truth ideology. And, which non-muslim is going to attend anyway, DAPs?
In politics, perception is everything.
Actually, I would go but am a bit caught up here.
Maybe I'll drop by on Wednesday to clarify issues with PAS.
They are very nice ppl at the grassroots, but sometimes just "tainted" but the leaders?
I'll still put my money on PAS than UMNO.
"According to the party constitution, PAS can only admit Muslims as full members."
i dont really understand this.they only admit Muslims as full members but on the last general election there are an indian woman who contested under PAS ticket!.i forgot at which area it was.
It seems there are 2 group of PAS members & one of them is of course the religious zealot like the PAS youth of FD/Selangor who opposes Dangdut & western concerts.
If PAS wish to have continuous support from non muslims, they should get rid of these members.
correction: PAS youth of FD/Selangor who cannot even tolerate Dangdut & western concerts.
So can we ask question?
of we should be silent and see only how they pray?
Anonymous,
Believe or trust PAS at your own peril. PAS must not be trusted, they have gone behind PR and have dialogue with umno multiple times. Non muslim should attend and hear what they have to say but just don't trust them. It has been proven that muslims tend to take the law in their own hands and they get protections from the Government, how ridiculous can it be! When I say muslims I am not saying Malays, I mean idiots like Najib who uses Islam for his own gains or to protect his crimes.
KKK
Please leave aside perceptions and doubts and give PAS a chance to get a clearer picture yourselves and not just by what reported by the media. I'm from chinese-malay parentage and I can proudly say I'm a muslim. I'm strongly against racial prejudice and race it's not important at all to muslim as all races are created by ONE LORD. and you are not doing any good by referring to the bad people as muslims instead of malays.
Are they going to yell at the "Babi" to "balik Cina" again at their muktamar ?
PAS can and should do more than this. Why not PAS and PKR(muslim members) engage with Bar Council to discuss the legal aspects on Islamic issues that are bothering the non-muslims. How can the other 45% of Malaysian understand and respect our Muslims brothers and friends if Islamic issues are beyond disccussion. Forget about Umno as they interpret Islam for their own political survival.
After seeing their protest of the Avril Lavigne Concert, I as a young male of Malaysia lost confidence to the PAS.
It seems that no matter how PAS is trying to dispel the perception of them being radical, narrow minded extremists.
Thanks to their youth wing, we once again saw the proof of PAS being a narrow minded bunch of extremists who had moral-panics against a mere-2 hour concert.
Not only they are hurting their already bad image, but also being a liability of the PR's coalition.
I would not vote for PAS anymore, as a registered voter. I wanted my children to be free thinkers, able to choose what they wanted to wear, see, hear, believe and say, not being opressed and controlled by so called religion fundamentalism addicts and sadists.
I'm sure the 15000 strong audiences at the rock concert yesterday would have said the same thing: PAS is such a wet blanket!
I didn't see anyone dared to stage a protest at the venue, if they were any, they would have skinned alive by us.
