Don't Listen To Rumours, Says Guan Eng. Which Vicious Group Is Responsible?

Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has called on the people of Penang not to listen to rumours which can destroy the spirit of goodwill among the various races in the state.

He said the act by irresponsible parties in spreading the rumours could undermine the new state government's efforts to create harmony in the state.

"This new government is the government of all the people of Penang, irrespective of political background, race or religion. We want to represent all the people in this state," he told reporters after a closed-door meeting with 21 Muslim non-governmental organisations (NGOs) at his office here today .

Present were the two deputy chief ministers, Mohammad Fairus Khairuddin and Dr P.Ramasamy.

At the meeting Lim reiterated his promise that the DAP-Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) coalition government would not sideline the Malays and Muslims.

"The position of Islam is not disputed and the rumours that the azan (call to prayer) will not be allowed are untrue. This is the first I'm hearing such stories.

Lim said he also told the NGOs that he would hold a meeting with Mohammad Fairus on the position of the Malays in Tanjung Tokong.

"Tanjong Tokong is the first Malay place that I visited before taking my oath of office and I told the residents that they have a friend in the Chief Minister's office," he said.

Meanwhile, Jemaah Islah Malaysia's (JIM) Penang advisor Dr Danial Zainal Abidin, who led the 21 NGOs in the meeting with Lim, said he was happy with the explanation given on the position of the Malays and Muslims in the state.

***** It is only through dialogue with the rakyat and crystal clear explanations about government policies and intentions that the BR state governments can proceed with their administrative duties without a hitch. As we can see, the vicious and corrupt have started to bare their fangs and are ready to descend to gutter politics in order to get back what they so deservedly lost.

The baseless rumour which is being spread by
the former warlords of graft and deception, that the government would sideline the Malays and Muslims, is going to be a recurring theme for a long time to come, until the Malays themselves are convinced about the BR government's sincerity. Patience and being upfront with the public at all times will go a long way to help them overcome their doubts.

UMNO dirty tricks department at work again....

I don't think the Malays in Penang need any real worries. The new group taking over a pretty reasonable people. Only problem is DAP folks sometimes are not so strong on EQ...they need to work on that.

The State PKR Chief Datuk Zahrain Hashim is a solid, experienced operator - Malay concerns will definitely be represented in the state government.

Show open dialogue, maintain consistent policies and implement fairly and all sectors of Penang should be happy.

Penang can do without the extravagances of parts of the NEP and prosper.

When HINDRAF came out & protested over the Rights of Indians, they were blasted with Water Cannons & Tear Gas.
When the Malays (UMNO) came out in Penang & protested over the NEP (Never Ending policy), they were allowed to go ahead.
Does that tell us something?
