Malaysian Opposition Split Averted As Chinese Party Backs Down In Dispute With Islamists

SILLY MISTAKE

Malaysia's Chinese-based opposition party, DAP says it will allow an Islamic party to head the government in a northern state where their opposition alliance won elections.

The decision averts a split in Malaysia's opposition coalition.

The Democratic Action Party had threatened to boycott a ceremony Thursday afternoon to install a member of the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party as the chief minister of Perak state.

But DAP officials said Thursday party legislators would attend the ceremony.
In an apparent reversal of his earlier statement, DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang apologized for offending legislators by ordering them to boycott the installation. (PR-Inside.Com)

***** Due to this one silly decision made by Mr Lim Kit Siang yesterday, his popularity and credibility went from sky high to almost zero overnight. He has been blasted from all sides and on the internet he has been humiliatingly castigated by all and sundry. Even in his own blog the majority of commenters who usually agree with his views have this time begged to differ.

I'm sure that by now he must have realised that the old ways aren't going to work in this new era of Malaysian politics. One is never too old to learn and this is a lesson that he should commit to memory and ensure that such a situation doesn't recur in the future.

It would be a real shame if after forty-plus years spent fighting for the betterment of the country he should be considered as the biggest impediment to national unity.

I highly disagree with you. What is the BASIS of choosing the PAS CM? Uh-huh. I thought so.

If we are to shake off the old ways, then it is time to be strong. If DAP always compromises, then it'll become anither MCA.

We should be very careful here, those BN crooks will be doing everything to sabotage the coalition government.

There will be comments from BN buggers here and there to create disunity for Barisan
Rakyat..

You are being unfair to LKS cos you are quick to hantam him but make nothing of his apology to our beloved and respected Sultan and Regent.

LKS has done well to heed the loads of feedback from his supporters.

DAP,PAS, PKR offered their best candidate each for the Perak Sultan to select as MB and the Sultan has selected. Kit Siang should have been a gentleman and come out to support this instead of shooting himself in the foot with his mouth! There is a new generation of voters who are now younger, smarter and like voters around the world, more demanding of fairplay, justice, equality and democracy. It is a good time for dinosaurs like LKS to consider retirement as their "best before" shelf life is expiring!

As a buddhist Chinese Malaysian and a DAP supporter from Johor, I can support the PAS MB at this critical time in our history. What wrong has he done? If we are so afraid of Muslims, we should move somewhere else ourselves .......

The objection to the PAS candidate was based on the fact that it garnered the smallest number of sttate reps. DAP was perfectly willing to accept the PKR MUSLIM candidate. What's the matter with you guys? Your selectivity in interpretation reflects on your own biases. Anyway in a Malaysia for all why can't you accept a non Malay MB as (1)the state constitution permits a waiver and
(2)DAP has the largest number of state reps in the alliance?
Walk the talk man

Well said, 12.35 and 1.40. Only biased and irrational people will think otherwise.

I agree that if the old ones can't learn to change their old ways - then they should retire. The party sings one tune when names were submitted and reverses when it does not suit them! Hope this clowns get their act together before it is too late.

Here's an account of what happened in Perak from http://matsamankati.blogspot.com/

4.30pm: Reporter mendapat maklumat, upacara angkat sumpah ditangguhkan.

5.00pm: Line Clear. Kuala Kangsar kembali normal.

Sana sini aku dengar, masing-masing menyalahkan DAP, tapi bila aku tanya kat seorang Ketua Bahagian PKR, lain pulak ceritanya.

EXCO pulak, DAP 6, PKR 2, PAS 2. Walaupun formula ini nampak merugikan kepada PKR, tapi PKR menerimanya, tapi DAP pulak tak suka. Kerana memberikan kelebihan kepada PAS. Lalu Kit Siang mengugut nak boikot.

Bila Kit Siang buat statement, Nizar ketaq lutut, takut-takut jawatan MB terlepas.
