Tell Children That Malays, Chinese, Indians Must Live Together, Be Friends, Respect One Another: PM
Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi wants parents and teachers to teach the younger generation to respect one another and integrate with all races to forge racial harmony.
The Prime Minister said although children were enrolled in schools of different medium of instruction, they should cooperate to ensure that racial unity was enhanced.
"We must tell children that Malays, Chinese, and Indians must live together and become friends, and respect one another," he said at a Chinese New Year dinner hosted by the Kepala Batas Gerakan and MCA divisions here tonight.
He said parents and teachers should remind children not to develop animosity against one another when they grow up because it could affect unity and harm the economy.
"Tell them to become friends and not enemies. If they were to become enemies, there will be chaos in the country, the business community will be in dire straits and the economy will be sluggish," he said.
Abdullah, who is also the Member of Parliament for Kepala Batas, also wanted the people to give emphasis on racial unity to ensure that the country was stable and successful.
"I will work hard to ensure that racial unity becomes the main national agenda and I hope my colleagues from the Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties will help me achieve the objective," he said.
He reiterated the importance of education to all races and stressed that all component parties' leaders should give their commitment to ensure that no race would be left out.
At present, Malay students who studied at national-type Chinese primary schools could achieve outstanding results, he said.
"We want all Malaysians to be educated and smart irrespective of which schools they go to," he said. (Bernama)
***** He's making all the right noises. Elections are definitely round the corner.

Like it or not we are all running a race of life & as long as the present ruling gomen continues to put the Malays a few hundred meters infront of the official starting line with all the other races watching from behind, we will not see a day of real inter racial respect & honour. On the contrary, we don't know when this racial time bomb will eventually go BOOM!!!!
If the PM is sincere, he can start by abolishing the poisonous practice of NEP & put in place proper fiscal & monetary systems to ensure long term proper wealth distribution and at the same time begins to really educate the Malays to learn how to fish instead of waiting to be given fish.
I only pity all our Malay friends that over the last 50 years, the gomen only managed to get them branded internationally as an inferior race & social parasites etc.
The Malays themselves must vote for change!
What's the point of Telling Children That Malays, Chinese, Indians Must Live Together, Be Friends, Respect One Another WHEN THE PM"S POLICIES DIVIDE THEM FROM DAY 1 WHEN THEY WERE BORN
I think that the PM should tell this to all his ministers and his fellow politicians in UMNO. Most of the normal Malaysians know how to live together, however, it is the Malaysian politics, laws and the politicians who want to destroy the harmony of the different races
We will not have "real" unity until we:-
1/ Abolish the NEP (Never Ending Policy)
2/ Have a Bangsa Malaysia (instead of the present Bumi & Non-Bumi "BS"). What do the Indians & Chinese tell their children who get straight A's but can't get a scholarship or can't get into a local Public University (the rich will send their children Overseas but the poor?) becuase their places have been given to their Bumi friends who have scored "worse" results?!
3/ Do away with this "Ketuanan Melayu" consept (do the Indians & Chinese tell their children that they have to be friends with all the other races but "by the way, do not question the "Ketuanan Melayu" when it comes to your Malays friends?)
A leader like Badawi is dangerous. His intentions sound good but his performance over his last term sucks.Hopefully Malaysians will not be so gullible this time round. This is just the friendly mask of a corrupt regime.
very shortly 200 childrens' will be visiting the pm.Lets see what he does.i hope he walk the talk.lets wait and see.just keep it in view
K E T U A N A N M E L A Y U
Bila ada tuan, mestilah adanya hamba! Macam mana nak saling respek?!!
Vote BN Not!
Pak Lah,
Please don't take us for idiot. You want us to be friend just because you want our vote. I have never seen your kind ever touching a chinese and indian child when you visit places. Now that GE is around the corner you are willing to 'be friend' to non bumis.
You guys are first class hipocrites. when my son was in NS, Najib visited the camp. he shaked hundreds of trainees but all of them are malays. Not one indian or chinese. We were untouchable then, eh?
Kiss my foot. Then I may consider.
A leader like Badawi who makes all the right noises, but gives free rein to his corrupt and racist sidekicks is actually more dangerous than a downright demagogue.
All the krisses waiting to be bathed with blood have been stowed away in the cupboard - until after the election...
Anonymous,
Did Najib really do that?
So what do we tell our children now?
For once, he is saying something right.
But for many poor Indians it still sucks to be at the bottom of the pyramid. They have even been bypassed by the plantation owners who rather get the cheaper foreign workers. So much for "helping" our own people first.
Some politicians are sure gaining from all the permits, fees and cheaper labour costs. Darn politicians screwing up our country!!!
