Just Who Is Ahmad Zahid Hamidi Trying To Kid?

Radio dan Televisyen Malaysia’s (RTM) News and Current Affairs Division adopts a tight procedure to ensure the authenticity of news before they are aired, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.

Deputy Information Minister Datuk Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said all news received went through several screening processes including at the chief reporter, the sub-editor, the senior sub-editor and the division director levels.

“Some news is referred directly to the top management. The News and Current Affairs Division also has its own operating manual,” he said.

Zahid said RTM would only air news after getting the official confirmation from genuine sources. Should a mistake occur, it was unintentional and RTM would immediately make a correction and apology, he said.

Asked on news reports by RTM on Saturday’s illegal gathering, he said RTM made it a lead story to deliver a message that staging a demonstration was not the correct way to win people’s support.

The demonstration would only tarnish the country’s image and it was not a democratic way to gain political influence, he said. (NST)

***** It looks like Zahid is taking after his bluff master boss, Zainuddin Maidin. "
Tight procedure to ensure the authenticity of news" indeed. What a laugh!

RTM is and always has been an unapologetic mouthpiece of Umno. Its credibility is below zero and except for some naive rural types, no one pays any serious attention to the disinformation it spews out on a daily basis.

If RTM were to indefinitely cancel its news segment from today, absolutely no one is going to miss or mourn its absence. In fact instead of wasting huge amounts of taxpayers' money on this Umno propaganda machine, it would make much of the population happy if the government would just mothball it.

As for the demonstration, can you expect this umnoputera to tell the truth, that it is not the gathering which tarnished the image of the country but the massive fraud which passes for general elections here?

The lip exercise should be over, there's no convincing that the misinformation ministers will stick to their spinnings. Never mind the fact that the PM himself has spoken (or lecture) top editors telling them the "do's and don'ts" what to report and what not to sensationalize. Maybe, this is part of Islam Hadhari style (not reportingnthe truths). This is a known fact that editors also get phone calls but having said this, newspapers are the real pondans, no courage and no guts but shore their kow-tows to shoe polishings.

The real point for citizens is to boycott TV stations and the majority of newspapers (except the SUN and Oriental). Have a mass boycott and save our money.

The Bersih rally proves that there are enough people in Malaysia who can be reached by alternative means to RTM and the mainstream papers.

This should make the UMNO spinners very worried.

The "illegal gathering" is still featured heavily in RTM's news until today, with the airing of various ministers' comments.

If RTM were to indefinitely cancel its news segment from today, absolutely no one is going to miss or mourn its absence.

I disagree with your statement above as I would miss a guaranteed source of entertainment.
