Why Has The Internal Security Ministry Banned Islamic State Debate in The Media?

So the Internal Security Ministry has seen fit to jump into the fray, ostensibly to 'calm' things down the only way it knows - by issuing orders! According to Malaysiakini, the above ministry has 'confirmed that they have given a directive to all mainstream media not to publish any news on the issue of Malaysia being an Islamic state'.

One of the religious cell pegawai in the ministry going by the name of Che Din Yusof claimed that the matter is 'sensitive' (the usual excuse) and can cause 'tension' (another famous last word on any issue) in Malaysia.

This all-encompassing perintah also prohibits the publication of any dissenting views which may be expressed by members of the Barisan 'family' like the one yesterday by the usually reticent 'foster-brother', MCA.

Now what could have prompted the ministry to issue such a directive so speedily? All the reasons given by the kementerian's religious underling, Che Din, are known excuses which are convenient as much as they are lame. Just because the matter is reported in the media doesn't mean that there is going to be a jihad between believers and the kaffirs. The ministry's opinion regarding 'tension' and 'sensitive issue' are purely expedient at best and serves to solidify the 'sweep under the carpet' mentality.

One possible reason for the publicity clampdown could be of course the rumoured looming general elections and the price which Umno may have to pay for this and other perceived slights towards the non-Malays. While Najib's statements may have been welcomed by the Malays in general it is not a particularly pivotal, super-important issue which will convince those opposition-voting Malays to change track. Many, many Malays can see through all the sandiwara played by these leaders. However these are the kind of 'shocks' which the non-Malays would not easily forget (and there have been many 'jolts' under this administration) and the majority of them who all this while had grudgingly voted BN may decide that it is time for someone else to lead the nation even if it is PAS.

A ban order like this one would also be convenient for gutless BN component parties as they can always turn around to their followers and say, "we did object to Najib's claim but it was not published." Good for them isn't it?

But above all could it be that the Internal Security Ministry is in an unholy hurry to put a lid on these discussions because of the obviously preposterous and legally untenable premise on which the DPM based his arguments and as a result is injuring his own standing, credibility and reputation apart from hurting the sentiments of an already nervous electorate? And therefore is the directive merely a damage control exercise and effort on behalf of Najib?

Remember in the general elections of 1999 the UMNO government and, in particular the MCA, demonised the DAP but taking large advertisments in the media that the DAP was getting into an unholy pact with the devil by teaming up with the PAS for the elections. The basis of this demonisation was that PAS trying to make Malaysia an Islamic state.

Well, what do we have now? MCA is not only in bed with a party trying to make Malaysia an Islamic state. It is already and still in bed with a party who has declared that it has made Malaysia an Islamic state. Being in bed who is effing who? Which is worse? MCA in bed with a party who has made Malaysia an Islamic state or DAP who has rejected PAS’s attempt to make Malaysia an Islamic state? DAP has declared it will not have any pact with PAS for the next elections. MCA is still very happy to sleep with the Islamic party.

Who is the worse hypocrite on this matter? Who is protecting their own political positions and sacrificing principles for office? Does anyone believe that MCA, in the face of their being in bed with the party which has made Malaysia an Islamic state, is defending the position of the non-malays and non muslims? MCA, such two faced liars!!!

WAKE UP, MALAYSIANS. THIS IS A CLARION CALL TO VOTE AGAINST THE BARISAN BUNCH OF CROOKS AND HYPOCRITES

Ahh... the Ministry of Insecure Internals again...

This guy, by the way, is the same bloke that heads the section of the ministry that has banned any "deviant" (read: non-Government approved) books that touch on religion, particularly Islam, over the years. Also responsible for putting a blanket ban on anything Karen Armstrong has written, it appears.

While I agree on the hypocrisy that delphi brings up... hey, so what's new...

Another sign perhaps, that the next GE loometh?

The best way to alleviate the "tensions" is to clarify the issues - in this case, state that Malaysia is NOT an Islamic state. Presumably nobody wants to make that clarification ???

By muzzling the mainstream media, tensions would likely heighten due to the unknown rather than the known. The known facts are that Malaysia is secular state with Islam as the official religion. Nowhere does it expressly say that she is an Islamic State.

Why can't they just acknowledge what is historically proven to be the case ? Are there revisionists at work ?

Yes, always quote "sensitive" & "tension", but who always started this??
It is just like slapping you in the face then tell you that don't response because it's "sensitive" & will cause "tension".
Why these idiot politicians always like to create troubles?

This word, "sensitive" has been raped, abused and exploited by some politicians and the oppressive bureaucrats for decades but particularly intensified during this current administration. The other word, "national security" shares the same fate. For time immemorial, it is a convenient "vocabulary" being prostituted to gratify its usage of power to suppress public debate and discussion. This administration is against the nurturing and development of a healthy civil society because it is against their self vested interests to hold on to powers. But the maturity of the average Malaysian society member is fast growing which also explained the reason why the stupidity and frivolous of government officials in dealing with public issues are becoming more glaring and intolerable. Hence, pulling the wool over the eyes of wiser Malaysians on many controversial and vital issues of the day no longer works. There is much hope in this country as long as this prevailing civilized and wise segment of our community continues to be strengthened and perhaps teach these political or powerful bureaucratic brigands on principled govenance with due respect to a civil society. Enough is enough. Stop issuing dictatorial directives supported with flimsy excuses. The government is the servant of the people and don't act like political masters.

Barisan Nasional bukan Malaysia!

Vote BN out and vote for SiPM instead!
