Mukhriz Denies Going For UMNO Youth Chief Post

UMNO Youth executive committee member Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir Monday denied having announced his intention to contest for the movement's top post as reported by an English language daily, reports Bernama.

He said the news report with the heading, "Mukhriz may go for Youth chief post" implied that he would contest for the post which was not true. "I feel that it's not the time yet for anyone including myself to make such an announcement as it would deviate from the focus right now, which is, preparing for the coming general election," he said in a statement issued here.

Mukhriz who is Umno Youth International Relations and Non-Governmental Organisations Bureau, said he would give full attention to helping the movement's head Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein in preparing for the general election which could be held anytime.

***** Perhaps as Mukhriz says it is still a little early to decide. Also in an indirect way he has indicated that he's not intending to throw in the towel. At least not yet. Having Mukhriz as the Umno Youth head would in a way 'balance' out things and to an extent prevent or at least rein in 'over-domination' by any one group.
