Jail Road Users Who Obstruct Police Riders, Ambulances.

According to a Bernama report, Federal Traffic Police chief Datuk Nooryah Md Anvar warned that road users who do not give way or obstruct traffic police riders escorting VVIPs, ambulances and fire engines responding to emergency calls, will be slapped with the maximum RM300 fine with immediate effect. She said the action was taken following the death of two police riders in an accident while they were escorting the Regent of Terengganu Tengku Muhammad Ismail Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin to the Sultan Mahmud Airport in Terengganu on April 8.

Nooryah said there was no excuse for motorists not to give way to police riders, ambulances or fire-engines since the sirens could be heard from a distance of more than 100 metres and they could also see the the siren lights.

She also hit out at motorists who took advantage by trailing closely behind VVIP motorcades for a faster and smoother ride. "Their action is wrong and dangerous. The traffic riders are trained to ride at high speed," she said.

I'm sure that there have been many occasions when we have seen motorists obstinately blocking the path of a siren wailing ambulance. While these bastards for obvious reasons, would be more careful with police riders and patrol cars, they couldn't be bothered with fire engines and ambulances. A mere fine is simply not enough to curb the pathological selfishness of these devils on the road. Imprison them. Then perhaps we won't hear of any more tragic deaths like those of the police riders who were only doing their duty.

Fully agree on that. I've many times given way to ambulances only to be overtaken some selfish brute who simply takes advantage of other people who do obey the law. Same for those racing behind ambulances or VIP convoys, as if they were part of the group.

Giving way to ambulances & fire engines is one thing.

But to some no-name "VIP" who is probably responsible for bad town planning and corruption in the first place? Go suck on a cactus!

To be fair, they should also fine ambulance drivers feel justified to fake an emergency just to escape the long queues and traffic jam.

agree with ter.

Ambulance, police, bomba etc we should give way. the harsh realiy is somewhere someone needs help and if we are to deny them, i quote earl J hickey "karma will bite back at us"

VIP however, does not deserve the privilege. Maybe if there was a huge international meeting somewhere, yea it be ok but daily commute? They should learn to queue in traffic lest they know how bad traffic are and maybe do something about it.

I recalled a minor accident happened many years ago during a time this Bloehland hosted an international seminar and police riders ferrying these so-called VVIPs. It happened when a police outrider suddenely appeared from nowhere and stopped the traffic at the Ampang Part traffic junction. A car had to brake suddenly and the car behind knocked into the car in front. All because of this practice. Should the police outrider be blamed? The traffic light was green at that time.

Second, when ambulances try to get its way through heavy traffic with flashing lights and siren, it does not mean there is a patient inside. I was told that sometimes, even an empty ambulance will misuse this privilege. True or not, I don't know.

I have also seen selfish Malaysians as mentioned taking advantage by following the ambulances or behind the passing escort of VVIPs. This is the road driving culture. Double-parking, hogging roads, throwing rubbish out the vehicles,,,etc too many to mention. But also when police outriders cause accidents, they should also be fined like everybody else.
