Ethnic Relations Module For Public Varsities Is Ready. Better Get It Right This Time.
THE controversial ethnic relations module for public institutions of higher learning is ready.
Higher Education Ministry parliamentary secretary Datuk Dr Adham Baba said that the module was presented to the Cabinet for approval on Dec 6 after a review of the original contents.
He said the contents comprised basic concepts of ethnic relations, Malaysia’s pluralistic society, the Federal Constitution, economic and political developments of the country, challenges to ethnic relations and challenges to Islam Hadhari.
"After closely going through the module, we have ensured that there would not be elements that cause tension among the races," he said.
He told Senator Wan Ubaidah Omar that the module involved lectures, tutorials and practical training involving case studies, projects and seminars.
He said the module was aimed at equipping undergraduates from institutions of higher learning with knowledge on issues related to ethnic relations in Malaysia besides fostering racial integration.
To a question by Senator Lee Sing Chooi, Dr Adham said that although the module touched on "black" incidents in the past, it enabled undergraduates to learn from such experiences and move forward to better race relations. (NST)
***** After the 'mistakes' made in the earlier attempt to 'equip' our undergraduates with 'authentic' facts and the miserable failure of trying to pass off fictional accounts of our history as the truth, it is hoped that the more rabid of the earlier 'authors' have been kept away from this edition. If the present module still contains historically untenable accounts of some fanatic's dreams, then the non-Malay Cabinet Ministers should be collectively condemned, for it is the Cabinet which has approved the current version.
