Trial Of Article 11 Forum Protesters Fixed For May 3.
The trial of two PAS leaders and a preacher, charged with taking part in an unlawful assembly to protest against an Article 11 forum here, will begin on May 3 next year.
Magistrate Ainul Shahrin Mohamad fixed the date after the prosecution informed the court that there were no instructions on the review of charges faced by the trio.
The case was fixed for mention Monday after Deputy Public Prosecutor Abdul Razak Musa told the court on Sept 28 that he had received a letter requesting a review from Md Yunos Shariff, the lawyer representing the three accused.
He had then asked the court for time to forward the letter to the Attorney-General's Chambers in Putrajaya.
In the dock were preacher Shahul Hamid M.P.H. Seeni, 31, social activist Rahim Ismail, 55, and religious teacher Mohammed Hafiz Mohamed Nordin, 36.
On July 28, they were separately charged with having taken part in an unlawful assembly in front of the Cititel Hotel between 8am and 10.30am on May 14.
They claimed trial to the offence under Section 27(5) of the Police Act. The three were given bail of RM2,000 each.
Rahim is the Bukit Bendera PAS division deputy chief while Mohammed Hafiz is the state PAS Youth deputy chief and chairman of Badan Antara Dakwah (Badai).
Police personnel were stationed outside the Northam Tower courthouse here from 8am yesterday, where some 100 PAS supporters had gathered. (TheStar)
