Selangor MB Sees Lesson From Councillors' Homes Controversy. But Will He Learn From It?
Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo said the controversy on the construction of homes of some Klang Municipal Councillors should be a lesson for all that no one is above the law.
"I am using this episode as a lesson for leaders and the people to follow regulations, and that no one is above the law, especially leaders.
"I hope everybody will learn something from what had happened. As for the controversy, we will settle it amicably. But I hope everybody understands the matter and there is no need to prolong it anymore," he said.
The issue emerged following Klang Umno division head Datuk Zakaria Md Deros's failure to submit a proper building plan to the authorities for his mansion at Kampung Idaman, Pandamaran.
Subsequently, Zakaria had to decline the offer to renew his term as a Municipal Councillor last Friday, followed by a similar gesture two days earlier by another Councillor, Faizal Abdullah, for similar controversy.
On the fate of Councillor Datuk Mazlynoor Abdul Latif, who had also built his home without getting approval for the building plan, Dr Mohamad Khir said Mazlynoor was expected to settle his problem in the next day or two.
He said it was up to Mazlynoor whether he wanted to resign from the municipal council as there was no pressure on the Klang Umno Division Deputy Chief to do so considering that he had been nominated and qualified for the post.
"Whatever it is, my decision is that all appointed Municipal Councillors must resolve their issues in two months. "For those who have yet to take their oaths, they cannot do so until they have settled their cases within the next two months. So we wait and see the outcome," he said.
He said all Municipal Council members including Zakaria and Faizal had earlier received their nomination letters but they could not exercise their duties as they had yet to take their oaths.
On candidates to fill the two vacancies, Dr Mohamad Khir said Umno would have to look into the matter. "We will have to think of suitable candidates but it will not be in this immediate term," he said.
**** The trouble with Khir Toyo is he talks smartly when facing the press, trying his utmost to present his best side. However it is the inconsistency between his speeches and his actions which pisses people off. For example today he talked piously about the lessons to be learnt. Fair enough. But you can bet that tomorrow he'd have changed tack and do something directly opposite to what he had preached earlier.
For a start all three greed mongers in the municipal council who built illegal houses should have their monuments to personal gain at the public's expense torn down after paying the fines for illegally building them. Now that would convince me "no one is above the law, especially leaders" to quote Khir Toyo.
However instead of that Khir Toyo talks like a saint at one moment while threatening all the residents of Selangor the next minute. How can you trust such a forked-tongue pemimpin? Even in the above 'sermon' that he gave, he confines himself to speaking about the errant councillors paying their fines or settling their cases or resolving the issues and nothing at all about punitive action politically. As far as he is concerned once they've 'settled' everything, then things wil be back to the good old days of unaccountability.
In his words, "I hope everybody understands the matter and there is no need to prolong it anymore." So kiss goodbye to any inquest or even a sham of an inquiry on how former office boys can build palaces on a councillor's and state assemblyman's salary plus every damn allowance included. For you see St. Khir Toyo has spoken and His Piousness doesn't want the matter prolonged. "Selesai sekarang" and forget the matter is his intent, plan and burning desire. Perhaps it will not be so easy for him to sacrifice them on the grounds of corruption because much bigger illegal activities may come to light. Who knows maybe His Piousness himself could be implicated. Worse things have been known to happen. So it's plausible that it is primarily in his own interest not to prolong the issue, and again to use his own words, "settle it amicably." For God forbid, if bigger secrets leak out when those who feel that they have been given the shaft start to sing, then semuanya will not be ok.

he's got to be kidding!
he just proved that if you're umnoputera, you CAN get away with it.
You wrote"...he speaks smartly when facing the press..." since when was Khir toyo smart? One who speak one language one day and another the next day is never smart... he's a bloody hypocrite!!
