Selangor Backbenchers Not In Favour Of Councillors Move. Of Course They're Not!

The Selangor Backbenchers Club Friday rejected a proposal calling for politicians to be prevented from being appointed as councillors of local authorities.

Its chairman Datuk Ahmad Bahari Abdul Rahman said that it was still necessary to have politicians as councillors as they were closer to the people and better able to understand their needs.

He said that although there had been instances of abuse of power by some, these were only isolated cases. "So just because of a few rotten apples, don't penalise the whole bunch. Let's not get emotional about it just because a few were found to be untrustworthy," he told a press conference after a meeting of the club here Friday.

Ahmad Bahari is also the State Assemblyman for Templer's Park and a Selayang Municipal Council councillor. He added that a resolution on the matter would be handed to Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo. (Bernama)

**** Laughable isn't it, this bullshit from our 'holier than thou' character of Templer's Park and Selayang? Politicians are closer to the people and better able to understand their needs!! How divorced from reality these bloody political types are. Almost everybody hates them but no one says it for fear of retaliation.

Ahmad Bahari says that there are only a few bad apples. Did he do a head count and did he include himself in that assessment? I personally feel that if a state assemblyman is so desperate to 'serve' as a councillor it is because of the kickbacks he gets in the way of contracts and other dubious cash earning projects and not because of his love of the people and the nation. And there are literally thousands of Ahmad Baharis out there who are ambitious and perhaps even envious of the 'success' of their 'colleagues' like Zakaria Md Deros. The feudalistic instinct is very much intact and what better expression of that than a huge istana like structure or a khazanah like bank balance?

You can bet your last sen that the backbenchers of every state assembly in the country will be up in arms if politicians are kept out of local councils. It would be tantamount to throwing sand into their periuk and 'unfairly' preventing them from cari makan. These political leeches care only for themselves and nobody else. That is the truth as I see it.
