Revamp The Corrupt Immigration Department.

An Immigration deputy assistant director was arrested by the state Anti-Corruption Agency for allegedly accepting a bribe from a man at the border checkpoint here.

A team of ACA officers nabbed the officer last Thursday, when he allegedly accepted RM2,500 as inducement to release the man’s vehicle. The ACA said it had recorded a statement from the officer, who is attached to the department’s head office in Kangar, and he had since been released on bail.

Two weeks ago, a former deputy director from the same department was charged with 25 counts of corruption in the Sessions Court.

**** What is wrong with the authorities? Why are they tolerating the presence of so many senior officers in the Immigration Department who are corrupted to the core? The above two examples are merely minor cogs in the larger wheel of massive improbity and crookedness. It is as if the government has given up on reforming the department and let things slide to the lowest depths.

As it is the immigration guys already have a bad name and are considered an international disgrace. On top of that such instances of open corruption by their senior pegawai is not helping their image either. It is about time that the Chief Secretary with the blessings of his political bosses does some 'spring-cleaning' in the department and get rid off the deadwood along with crooks who have made it their home sweet home.

Revamping any system must be in top-down orientation. It is a chain effect in a pyramid structure. If the higher management has not condoned the corruptive actions, will the tiny flies on the bottom of pyramid dare to accept bribes?

Don't tell me everyone is so clean and only this poor guy is corrupted. Perhaps too many people are blind, and too many surveillance cameras are faulty.

Who benefited the most in the corruption scene? Is it the small flies? or is it the big fish? Who did we catch? Think on and we will see the light soon.
