Malaysia's Immigration Department - An International Disgrace.

How often have you heard of anyone having a good word to say about the Immigration Department? In my case NEVER.

How many of you have had the misfortune of entering an office of the department? Lucky if you haven't. The grim, morose and unsympathetic faces of the staff, as if each were nursing a painful haemmorhoid, is there for all to see. No exaggeration. It's as if our presence has somehow disturbed their very busy work schedule and that they are doing us a big favour just to plant their backsides on their respective chairs.

Their matlamat seems to be to give the maximum difficulty to any matter at hand and put as many obstacles to a smooth resolution of every problem that one may have. Perhaps when they join this infernal department they take a solemn oath to guard and protect the Tanah Air by making things so impossibly complicated that no one will dare come to them on any matter. If that is true they have succeeded splendidly.

Unfortunately there is this group of harassed people called 'Permanent Residents(PR) who have no choice but to meet these devils in human form and the suffering they undergo is deplorable.

They have to put up with THREATS, and made to wait 6 months just to TRAVEL OVERSEAS.

The deaf and dumb immigration department has been condemned by almost everyone including FOMCA but do you think they care? No way! Hey, they've got their matlamat remember?

You're right. An absolute disgrace. I've heard so many similar horror stories. It almost seems like they don't welcome foreigners over here.

Malaysia very much well come foreigners to this beautiful land, but by having strict immigration rules we can also at the same time filters the future terrorist/illegal immigrants/foreigners who are abusing our law from neighbouring countries and worlwide.

Bear in mind Malaysia is a heaven to the foreigners of the 3rd world country. We dont want our country one day be ruled by the illegals.

Take note we are already seeing the bad effect of the illegal foreigners in this country such as STREET KID (CHILDREN WITHOUT COUNTRIES), INFLUX OF ILLEGAL KID IN OUR SCHOOLS, CRIME AND COLONISATION OF PLACES BY INDONESIAN, AFRICANS, BANGLADESHIS..ETC.IN KLANG VALLEY..

As for IMMIGRATION DEPT. please continue with the strict rulings. IM all for it.

On the otherside of the coin....

As an expat who every year has to renew his work permit I have nothing but good things to say about Immigration.

I can download the forms off the Internet. I never have to spend more than 40 minutes at Immigration Office. The staff are unfailing courteous, helpful and efficient. I could bore you with lots of little anecdotes from the staff member who bought me breakfast to the lady who kept my umbrella for me when I left it there but they are all good ones.

For my part I try to help maintain this good atmosphere by always smiling and having the correct documents ready and accurately filled-in. The number of times I see Immigration staff having to assist someone who can't/is too lazy to fill-in the forms correctly....

Am I living in a dream land? Perhaps but it is a dream I relive every year when my work permit needs renewing

It's important that experiences like that of habisboy should be highlighted. At the very least it shows that there is still hope for the other expats and PRs.
