A Licensed Crook.
Three optical disc production machines worth RM15 million used to churn out pirated video and music CDs were seized Friday in a raid on a licensed CD production factory in Bandar Seri Damansara here.
The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry enforcement division's special taskforce head Ahmad Dahuri Mahmud said the machines were found in guarded secret rooms on the first and second floors in the factory. "The entrance to the rooms were blocked by file cabinets on the first floor and racks holding plates and bowls on the second floor. The doors to the rooms could only be opened by remote control devices," he said Friday night.
He said the machines could produce 15 million optical discs a year and the factory had been in operation since six years ago. "The factory is licensed to produce optical discs and has other machines for its legal business which was used as cover for its pirated disc activity," he said.
According to Ahmad Dahuri, his men raided the factory after having had it under surveillance for two weeks following a tip-off from the public. Ten workers there were also detained while 19,000 optical discs were seized. Ahmad Dahuri said that they were also investigating if the discs were meant to be exported illegally.
The case is being investigated under the Optical Discs Act 2000 and Copyright Act 1987.
**** These are the bigger enemies of the nation, those who have been entrusted by the authorities to legally produce discs and yet the unlimited greed of the owners lead them to invest their time and energy in pirated ones. Once a pirate always a pirate perhaps? They are criminals who should feel the full force of the law. Imprison these bastards. A heavy fine just won't do.
