Militant Group Al-Mau'nah Leader Hanged.

Mohamed Amin Mohamed Razali, the leader of the militant Al-Mau'nah group who became the first man to be convicted for waging war against the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, was hanged Friday.

The man who taught a mystical brand of Islam and dreamed of setting up an Islamic administration in the country, went to the gallows in the Sungai Buloh Prison in Selangor at about 6am. The body was claimed by his family at 10am and taken back to the village of his birth, Kampung Ngor in Sauk, Perak for burial Friday.

A source in the prison told Bernama that Mohamed Amin asked to meet his family members before he died. "He asked for the forgiveness of his family and wept," the source said. But Mohamed Amin was calm at the final moments as he waited for the end with the noose around his neck, the source added.

Mohamed Amin led a band totalling 29 men in a doomed mission to overthrow the government. The cult burst into national prominence after they carried off a cache of weapons, ammunition and other army equipment from two army camps in Perak in the early morning of July 2, 2000. Dressed in the uniforms of senior army officers, they tricked their way past the guards and raided the armouries. The band then holed up on Bukit Jenalek in Sauk where their practice firing attracted the attention of residents who alerted the security forces.

In the meantime, Mohamed Amin also sent his cult members to bomb the Carlsberg and Guinness Anchor breweries in Shah Alam and Petaling Jaya and the Hindu temple in Batu Caves, but their amateurish attempts caused little or no damage.
