MyKad With Driving Licence Details Not Enough.
KEEP your old faithful driving licence, even if you have incorporated it into MyKad.
While you are still able to renew your licence at the Road Transport Department, you still need the hard copy, said its director-general, Datuk Emran Kadir. "Those who have incorporated their driving licence details in their MyKad still have to bring their old licence when renewing," he said.
He added that a fee of RM20 will have to be paid by MyKad holders who do not have their old licence. "It is not a fine, it is a normal fee to make a new licence on top of the RM30 for renewal," Emran told The Malay Mail. He explained that those who want to renew their licence, incorporated in their MyKad, can only do so at the National Registration Department at Putrajaya. He said the issue was brought up in a meeting with NRD in Putrajaya last week.
"The NRD is aware of our problems. Our priority is to upgrade the system in Klang Valley. Until then, MyKad holders will have to renew their licence this way." Emran said the upgrade, estimated at RM150 million, is part of the 9th Malaysia Plan.
NRD public relations officer Jainisah Mohd Noor has confirmed that renewal and uploading licence details into MyKad can only be done at its Putrajaya headquarters. "However, our State headquarters and branches in the Klang Valley can still upload details into MyKad," she said. (Malay Mail)
