Bukit Cahaya Park; Another Rape In The Offing?
Agriculture and Agro-based Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, notorious former Mentri Besar of Johor, says that the Bukit Cahaya Seri Alam Malaysia Agriculture Park will be developed as a botanical garden and not a forest reserve. "Who wants to trek into the jungle?" asks this classic example of ministerial ignorance! Perhaps he has confined his forays into the forests to what he views on National Geographic and is therefore convinced why he has to trek into that God forsaken place when he can 'experience' it with a few presses of the tv remote. And this guy is the Agriculture minister!!
So how much of the forest is our man planning to 'develop'? "If possible, we want to turn the entire area into a botanical garden, not for forest conservation." Brilliant!!
And what does the 'developing' of this forest into a botanical garden entail? He said the first phase of the project, which entailed upgrading and enhancement of the park, would be awarded to contractors through open tenders. Yes that unavoidable C-word again - contractors! Therefore it is ultimately about making BIG money, and poor Bukit Cahaya Park is in for another round of gang rape.
After having been MB Johor for donkeys years he should now by right, be like a 'king in the counting-house counting all his money.' But when did pure greed ever completely escape man's clutches? Perhaps they have this deep dissatisfaction, a discontentment that just won't go away, if they don't make more and more. Also one must take note that as MB or CM, 'favourable circumstances' to make hay while the matahari shines are aplenty. However as a federal minister, that 'window of opportunity' is somewhat narrowed for most portfolio holders, except perhaps 'lucrative' ones like Public Works, which Samy Vellu has apparently been given sole-proprietorship. Therefore they have to patiently wait for that one 'big' deal to gain enough wealth for several lifetimes.
Is that what is going to happen or already has started to happen in the case of Bukit Cahaya Park? It would be interesting to get all your views on this.
