PM To Pick Next KL Mayor.
With the PJ Mayor's post undecided, it looks like the appointment of the KL equivalent is more or less on the cards when it was announced that the PM himself will select a suitable person.
Federal Territories Minister Datuk Zulhasnan Rafique is not giving any clue but insisted that the candidate will be picked by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
Zulhasnan also said various quarters are also lobbying for their candidates to fill the hot seat which will become vacant when the current mayor Datuk Ruslin Hassan's contract expires at year end. "We will study the proposals that we received from various quarters in recent weeks.
"But whatever it is, it will be the prerogative of the Prime Minister to pick the new mayor," he said.
**** So a lot of the excitement is now in the background and the lobbying must surely be at a level where politicians must be scrambling to get one of their men in, lest the PM nominates a public servant. After Ruslin took over, the poor Umno politicians were left in the lurch and even the best efforts of the former Federal Territories Minister, Isa Samad, did not yield anything 'profitable' for the Umno men.
Now is the time and chance of a lifetime for some lucky devil. Getting the Prime Ministerial nod for this post is hitting paydirt and the appointee, his family, friends, business partners, girlfriends, mistresses and ahli jawatan kuasa cawangan are all set for life. We'll just have to wait and see whom Pak Lah picks this time around.
Meanwhile Khir Toyo is keeping mum over the selection of the PJ Mayor
