Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) Charges 'Rodent' Fees!

In the Malay Mail complaints section today: The new guideline by Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) for restaurant owners to pay RM150 annual fee to rid their outlets of rodents is ridiculous, says Tan.

The amount is too steep,” he says. Tan says checks with several companies have revealed that their fees are half of what the council is asking. He says the council should allow operators to use other companies instead of the ones appointed by them.

MPSJ president Datuk Mohamad Arif Abdul Rahman says the guideline was to ensure that all restaurants in its municipality are clean and free of rodents. “We have also introduced a grading system whereby restaurants will be given ratings, cleanliness is one of the criteria.” On the fee, he says it is reasonable as the council’s panel of companies will be servicing restaurants every month and using quality materials."

“The council will evaluate the performance of companies on our panel. If we are not satisfied with them, we will not renew their contracts,” he adds.

**** One thing is clear; someone is making loads of cash catching rats! The lengths to which these guys will go to make an extra buck. Not even the lowly, dirty rat is spared. Multiply RM150 by the number of premises 'serviced' by this unnamed panel of rat-catchers and you'll have a rough idea of the quantum of cold cash they stand to make!

As usual we must eye with suspicion the council's 'panel of companies' as MPSJ president Mohamad Arif calls these rat-catchers. Are they in any way related to the relative of a relative of Mohamad Arif or any of his senior officials? (I refer to the panel company, NOT the rat!).

If past trends are anything to go by there will be a connection somewhere along the line. There has to be, when it comes to novel money spinning ideas that come from these Majlis types. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if they even 'recycle' the rats to show the effectiveness of their methods.

Mohamad Arif is not even sure whether they'll be dedicated to their chosen vocation of rodent collector cum exterminator when he says that if we are not satisfied with them, we will not renew their contracts.

I don't know about you but something fishy is going on and I definitely smell a rat.
