More Than Political Will Required, Prime Minister.

Political Will Needed For Sustainable Forest Management, Says Abdullah is the headline in Bernama today.

The Prime Minister is partly correct. While praising the Sabah government (previously this state was one of the biggest rapists of greenery probably in the world) he said that he would bring the matter up in his meeting with Menteris Besar and hoped they would come and visit Sabah to learn about effective forestry management and timber felling methods that did not adversely affect the environment.

Asked on states that seemed to have a propensity for timber revenue, Abdullah said: "That is what I am trying to get at. If we keep felling trees for timber, a time will come when there will be none left. He said selective logging should also be reduced while replanting efforts needed to be increased in order to sustain the plank and furniture industries. Forests were also rich in biodiversity that could be the basis of biotechnology industries, herbal medicines and also for research to produce seeds that could result in high yield timber trees, he added.

****I'm glad that you have great insight in matters green Prime Minister. So do your MBs and CMs. They are not ignorant fools who do not know such basics. But along the way they became converts to sustainable personal wealth rather than sustainable forest management.

Look how they have ravaged the country by their greed. Any proposal to fell not only a few trees but large tracts of valuable land has been approved by these political parasites in the name of development just to enrich themselves and their cronies. They don't give a damn for sustainable anything, caring only for those near and dear to them. The future of the environment is not their concern, only how much they can swindle in the present.

If you think by coming to Sabah they are going to change their ways, please forget it Prime Minister. It's an utter waste of time. The only thing that will force them to understand the importance of anything is the threat of losing their job. Hit at their rice bowl. That is the best education you can give them.

They need more than political will Prime Minister; they need a genuine interest in the country and her future, a suppression of their voracious appetite for accumulating wealth, true pride in their work and an honest desire to make a difference for the better in the lives of the people in their respective states. Now that's much more difficult than giving them a free trip to Sabah.
