Selangor Excos Sworn In At Last

After some initial hiccups over the past fortnight the swearing-in ceremony for the 10 Selangor executive council members was finally held at Istana Bukit Kayangan today.

The new exco members are Yaakob Sapari (Kota Angerik), Rodziah Ismail (Batu Tiga), Dr Xavier Jayakumar (Seri Andalas) and Elizabeth Wong (Bukit Lanjan) of the PKR, Dr Hassan Ali (Gombak Setia), Dr Halimah Ali (Selat Kelang) and Iskandar Abdul Samad (Cempaka) of Pas, and Ronnie Liu (Pandamaran), Teresa Kok (Kinrara) and Ean Yong Hian Hua (Seri Kembangan) of the DAP.

With this it is expected that the state government will get down to the task of administering the state effectively. More importantly it must ensure that it is seen to be fair to all the people and eschew corruption and cronyism which the earlier Umno-led administrations were notorious for.

A good inning by this state government will go a long way in convincing the public not only in Selangor but in those states which are still under the divisive and corrupt BN's control that the Barisan Rakyat is a far better choice than the race-obsessed, graft-ridden Umno variety which should be given a quiet burial sooner than later.

Before the 8/9th of March 2008 most or all Malaysians would never have dreamt that what is happening in Selangor could have ever come to happen. We had been instilled with BN all the while and of their imaginary grandoise control of all voting apparatus that we did not really know that MAKKAL SAKTHI actually exists.

May the Good Lord above guide the hands of the new MB and the members of the Assembly to do what the BN had failed to do for the citizens of Selangor for the last 50 years.

Most of us who are above 50 years of age have gone through the Japanese occupation and the Emergency. In our last days we want to see a non racial and non religious government shorn of arrogance; ego; avarice; greed and pride sitting in the Centre and all States ruling this country with wisdom and courage so that when we depart this world, we will leave happily knowing that our future generations are in safe hands.
