Hindraf Flower Protest Attempt To Disrupt Election, Says PM! Paranoia Apparently Is Alive And Well

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi today condemned the action of an unlawful organisation in organising an illegal assembly in Kuala Lumpur today, saying it was an attempt to raise fear in the people and disrupt the general election.

He said the action of this group of extremists was solely to create chaos and instill fear in the people and finally to disrupt the general election, polling for which is on March 8.

"People who disrupt the elections do not respect the democratic process. When there is disorder, the people do not come out to vote for fear of getting caught in fights," he told reporters after launching a project to upgrade a road under the Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER), here.

Abdullah is on a one-day visit to Kedah, the first state he is visiting after the dissolution of parliament on Wednesday to pave the way for the general election.

Police detained nine people following attempts by members of the so-called Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) to hold an illegal assembly in the city today.

***** My, what harsh language from our soft-spoken Prime Minister. Let's review his selection of words ---
attempt to raise fear, disrupt the general election, group of extremists, solely to create chaos, do not respect the democratic process.

And all that they wanted to do was to hand over some roses to him and appeal for the release of those held under the ISA! How does his conscience allow him to demonise these down-and-out folks who in early January itself had already made public their intention to present him with roses on February 16th?

After all they are citizens of the country who wish to present flowers to their prime minister.
A genuine leader would have gone the extra mile to welcome them, graciously receive the gift and bid them farewell. Such a gesture would have been worth a thousand speeches claiming that the government is fair to all races. But in Malaysia's race-ridden society it might have appeared as appeasing the 'others' and may not have gone down well with the Malay majority. Therefore the alternative is to paint them as extremists and label them as disruptive elements out to instill fear and create chaos. What a pathetic, third world state of affairs.

He is becoming afraid of his own shadow, for he'll be sacked should he failed to get 2/3 majority

Anonymous,

Do not be ashamed of being Malaysian.
Just because we have a PM who will use force against Women & Children who want to give him flowers (!), does not make all Malaysians worthless! The SHAME is on Bodohwi & his Government. PDRM's (Police Di-Raja Malaysia) name should be changed to Poils Di-Barican National (PDBN) because they do not work for King & Country, they work for the BN!
When decent-minded Malaysians stop caring, that's when we start going down-hill (actually we have alreday started going down hill due to the brain-drain).
By not caring what this Government does, we only show how selfish we have become.
The first thing that needs to be done is vote them out or at least deny them a 2/3rds majority.
I am proud of being a Malaysian (that does not mean I love what "evil" this Government does)!

I think the PM has been badly advised by his principal Indian community advisor (you-know-who) that Hindraf are just a bunch of trouble makers. Simply brushing aside the Hindraf message (even if he doesn't like the messenger) is going to cost him serious votes during the GE.

Wow, if you want to express your love for the PM and deliver to him some roses, you are labelled an extremist. Wonder what label his real political enemies are, and I don't mean the Opposition fellows.

To anonymous 8.57 pm, don't be shy to be a Malaysian. This is one of the best countries to live in. The govt of the day is a political being. Unfortunately, 50 years of being under the same coalition and about 25 years of seemingly authoritarian rule has left the govt institutions behaving like they have the power over the rakyat. They seem to have forgotten that the rakyat pays their gaji.

AS for the demonstration, a real democracy will allow its people to express their feelings openly and peacefully. Had this demonstration been granted its mission, there would not have been any mishaps whatsoever. Now, who is it that wants peace and order ?

anonymous@8.57 PM,

By all means spread your wings & prosper in Singapore or any other countries, but please do not be ashame of your country of birth.

Learn to separate the country from the government. Malaysia is a lovely place with nice beaches, cool mountain, friendly people, food galore & more. It's the government that's screwed up & THAT we can change!

Vote BN not!

I agree with qwerty that ashame with government and ever not the country.
Our country is full of opportunities, resources and it's goldmine for many foreigners.
If the government were like other country's government our country can beat Singapore and Hong Kong.
So Vote for the better candidate in coming GE to make our country become jewel of South East Asia or Asia as a whole and WE, Malaysian can live happily ever after!

There is no 'Grace' as such in the Pm. So with his cohorts who go around shouting 'nonsense' all the time and give talks of glories that are yet to come for all Malaysians.

Ego and Pride always lead to a fall. Tun Dr Mahathir expected some semlance of loyalty and thanks for having 'thrust' Badawi into the position of PM. He had an overwhelming victory at the following Elections because he was the incumbent PM and had played his card well to hoodwink the public which have got to know him better now. It is most surprising that the Tun despite the Semangat 46 debacle could take back Badawi into his confidence and thrust him to the highest pinnacle of power.

Or, is it a Master Game that the Tun is playing. Something tells me that the Tun could not have been a knave or a fool. He had and still has something up his sleeve.

On the other hand, Badawi has been utterly rude to the man who thrust him to his present position and has confirmed the Tun's earlier cries that you cannot 'trust' your 'friends' and that it is easier to deal with your 'enemies'.
