Racial Tolerance Reflected When One's Festival Celebrated By Others - Sharizat. Amazing Naïveté Or Plain Ignorance?
Racial tolerance is the key to the progress and prosperity of the country, said Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil.
She said tolerance was reflected in festivals where a festival of one community was also celebrated by others.
"Actually we respect each other's culture and religion. I believe this is the reason why we can live together harmoniously in a multi-racial society," she told reporters after attending a Christmas celebration at Bukit Bandaraya, Bangsar here today.
The celebration was jointly organised by the Bukit Bandaraya Community Association and Lembah Pantai People's Representative Office.
Shahrizat is also the Member of Parliament for Lembah Pantai. (Bernama)
***** One of the biggest lies being spread all the year round by our government is that Malaysians of different races still actually participate in the 'celebration' of each other's festivals. An honest appraisal will reveal that nothing can be further from the truth. The major religious festivals have become exclusive affairs involving mostly those of the same race and faith. Perhaps a few decades ago people did attend and partake of the festivities of those of different religions. But definitely no more. I have wonderful memories as a kid of 'doing the rounds' during festivals with my dad, then a senior government officer, mom and my siblings. Every year without fail we would be guests at genuine 'open houses' during Hari Raya, Chinese New Year, Deepavali and Christmas. We would be warmly welcomed and feted by gracious hosts and the atmosphere of friendliness and camaraderie was palpable. We in turn would reciprocate their kindness and friendship at our annual 'open house'.
The Malaysians of today by and large are neither inclined to invite 'outsiders' to their religious festivals nor feel the need to attend the merry celebrations of another's faith. It is a sad reflection of the state of our national unity. The government however continues undeterred to hype a fallacy and the BN coalition of political parties is today perhaps the only major sponsor of 'open houses' where people flock to see their political leaders face-to-face and enjoy free food.

The 'Open Houses' would show their true colors once free food is no longer offered but people will have to pay for the food
What tolerance are UMNOputras talking about? It's only one way traffic. They can simply say anything to hurt other but can't even acdept other when come to true fact. Eg. the word "Allah" used by other religions are an offend, just can't comprehend why, what tolerance??
"Racial Tolerence" - again another line that they hope if told a few million times will "brain-wash" everyone to believe them!
Nope - does not work! Still don't believe it!
That is the government majority voted for. I have since my first election in 80's have constantly voted for opposition. In my case - PAS; eventhough I'm a Chinese.
Like I always tell my friends - if you are not happy with the BN then do something. I have done my part, have you?
Racial tolerance??
Ha... even my toes are laughing!!
Sharizat must be smoking her socks again or finally her hair dye is getting to her nogging!!
This coming election, I will even vote for any donkey, turkey or monkey, it will certainly be an improvement over the present lot!
Vote BN Not!
Before you people speak of racial tolerance, let me ask a few questions.
1) Why was UMNO meeting held on Deepavali day?
2) Why must break a temple when Samy Vellu was there? Can't u wait?
3) Why can't you give the body of death husband back to a widow? So what, if he was a Hindu or Muslim or a free thinker. Love and humane are more important.
4) You know that Talebanisation wont work in Malaysia, why do u continue to harp on Islamization.
5) You know that a secular country with Islam as the official country is fine with the rest. Why do you continue to harp Malaysia is a Muslim country and as if practising other religions are wrong?
6) Why do you continue to harp Ketuanan Melayu?
7) Why do u continue to allow racist bastards and motherfuckers like Khairry Jamaluddin, Zainuddin Maidin, Ali Rustam and Khir TOyol to make racial provocative remarks?
8)Why dont you people move towards bangsa Malaysia instead of using Malay, Chinese and Indian?
9) Why is that elimination of poor is not done irrespective of religion? Why is it forever harping on Malay?
10) Why is NEP being continued forever instead of strong affirmative plan for all races? Until when the tax payers monies are going to be used to help only one race?
When you have answered all these questions, then only, racial tolerance would exist.

Bodohwi,.....,
Your questions are very relevant & any "right-minded" Malaysian will want to have answers to these questions.
However, you must understand that these are NOT "right-minded" people we are talking about!
They want to hold on to power & to Hell with everyone else...they don't care if our Beloved Country is dragged through the mud or goes to Hell.
Hchan1961,
Yes, I have voted ever since I registered. However, there are many eligble Malaysians out there who are either not registered or have / will not vote...because they feel it's a waste of time. But, they will still "bitch" about the Government! How sad!
my in-laws and malay friends invite people of other races to their hari raya gatherings. the deepavali celebrations i went to last month were also attended by malay neighbours. is this some kind of weird anomaly not recorded elsewhere in the country?
oh sure the politicians are out to milk every muhibbah inch ('cos that's what politicians do and have always done, the job description includes lashings of insincerity) but i think malaysians are a warmer and more tolerant lot than you're giving them credit for in this post.
