Malaysia's Resident Info-Dictator Warns Corporations About Flying National Flag
Not a day passes by without Lord Zam, Darth Vader of the Information Darkside, exhibiting his unrestrained anger at some issue or the other. His peeve for the day are the 'unpatriotic' tokoh2 korporat who have thus far ignored the millionth call by all and sundry in the government to fly the national flag. And what are the consequences if they don't?
According to Bernama, Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) will show pictures of buildings, particularly corporate premises, which do not fly the Jalur Gemilang on its TV channels.
Information Minister Datuk Seri Zainuddin Maidin said the move was to remind everyone in this country to be more conscious of the 50th anniversary celebrations of Malaysia's independence this year.
He said that flying the Jalur Gemilang demonstrated that the parties or individuals concerned supported the government's efforts and together appreciated the meaning of independence instead of merely paying "lip service".
***** Firstly all those bloody tokoh2 who made their zillions because of the government's policies of favoritism and cronyism should be flying huge flags rivaling the one at Wisma TV Angkasapuri. They owe that much at least to the government. Not only for the big bucks they've been literally given on a silver platter but also for the Tan Sri , Datuk Seri and Datuk awards bestowed upon them at almost every Royal and Gubernatorial birthday ceremony.
As for the others there is no harm in showing your enthusiasm by flying the bendera. However one should object to have the patriot or loyalist tag being attached to flag flying. That is utter nonsense. Loyalty and patriotism like genuine respect must be earned and cannot be demanded or legislated.
If some people are not in the Merdeka mood we cannot coerce them to come out and celebrate. If there are few takers for the 50th anniversary celebrations then the kerajaan has to take stock of this and find out what gives. In actual fact almost every year, August 31st ends up as an extravagant show of Umno and BN by Umno and BN for the rest of the country to see and appreciate. Many see but how many truly appreciate is debatable.

"Many see but how many truly appreciate"
How very true!
I can see some public buildings started displaying JG, but they are not flying or raising it up, I think they r doing it without sense of respect and honour - like attaching it to the fence, is that proper?
Perhaps independence means deciding by yourself when and how you want to fly the flag, and not when threatened by Zam? It's not big fat cats who think about flying flags and stuff, often it's the HR person in the company or some other staff person. So let's not judge them all as disloyal Tan Sris.
Personally I think loyalty and patriotism doesn't depend on whether you fly the flag or not.But if you do fly the flag, then it should be treated with respect.
I also think that showing buildings that don't have flags only makes people more annoyed, besides being bad TV. Show the good examples, not bad and people will be motivated by the right things, not just not to be embarassed.
Do u want to see a forced (false) patriotism or a true die hard citizen for Malaysia?
