Samy Vellu, Will You Take Responsibility For This And Other Cases Of Indian Aggressiveness?

Crimes committed by Indians, especially their youth is becoming more frequent and increasingly scary. How a historically docile race could have become so violent in a few decades should form the basis of a thesis on the rural-urban drift, extreme poverty, gross official negligence and the role played by both politicians and gangsters. When pushed to the wall, Indians, (in this case Tamils) have shown their ruthlessly violent streak as seen in the 'liberation' wars by the Tamil Tigers in Sri Lanka. But here they are becoming like mafia-style executioners and paid killers apart from committing daring and extremely violent crimes. As ridiculous as it may seem, things are becoming so bad that there are actually frightened people out there who dare not even look at a young Indian male for fear of being accused of staring and end up being chopped to pieces. Adding to the ignominious list of Indian deeds is the following report from Bernama.
A former bank clerk and two men she hired to cut off her boyfriend's legs, were sentenced to seven years' jail by the High Court here Wednesday for causing his death.

Justice Lim Yee Lan said the accused -- Rabiah Basry Sultan, 35, M. Jinaraj, 26, and I. Jay Kumar, 22, -- were lucky because the prosecution had reduced the charge from murder to culpable homicide. She said the action by the two men in slashing the victim several times on his knees to the extent of almost severing his legs was a very heinous crime.

"The two accused committed the act on the instruction and plot by the first accused without compassion, causing the loss of a life without any justification. If they were convicted of the offence at the end of trial, the court would not hesitate to impose the maximum 10 years' jail," she said.

Jinaraj, a storekeeper, and Jay Kumar, unemployed, had on Friday pleaded guilty to the amended charge of causing the death of 28-year-old company director S. Manivan at Block B, Condominium Medan Putra in Kepong at 3.30am on July 15, 2003. Rabiah also pleaded guilty to the amended charge of abetting them.

The judge said the court agreed with Deputy Public Prosecutor Yusaini Amer Abd Karim's submission that in sentencing, as practised in the country, the main consideration was public interest.

"The offence under Section 304 is a serious offence and the court needs to hand down a sentence that can serve as a lesson to prevent the crime from being committed by others. However, other factors like a guilty plea, the accused background, facts of the case and other mitigating factors also have to be considered," she said.

She ordered the seven-year jail term on the three accused to run from the day of their arrests in July and August 2003. Rabiah who wore Malay traditional dress 'baju kurung' and a blue headscarf, was seen smiling after the judge handed down the sentence.

Yesterday, the court was told that Rabiah, who lived in the same house with Manivan and has a 12-year-old child with a former husband, paid Jinaraj and Jay Kumar RM2,400 to cut off the man's legs and beat him to "give him a lesson".

Manivan died of multiple slash wounds and severe head injury at 2.45pm on July 15, 2003 at the Selayang Hospital.
***** How much responsibility would the MIC take for the great slide in the average Indian's economic stake as well as the upswing in the incidence of serious crimes committed by them? Samy Vellu has been ruling and lording over them for decades, would he now bow his head in shame and say "it's all my fault?" I think it would be more realistic to expect snowfall in Sentul than wait for Samy Vellu to acknowledge his culpability.

The sentence is much too light. With 1/3rd remission, they will be out in 4 years or so which means they could be released anytime soon.

Tamil and other Indian films, widely available in the Malaysian media today, aggrandizes violence and anti-establishment behaviour among Indian youth.

I am an Indian, too.

I agree with anonymous (8.49). The sentence is way too light. Should give them much much more and caning.

Having said that, aside from MIC, the government too must take responsibilities. The Indians lost their idyllic estate life when estates were developed and they evicted. When they come to urban areas looking for job they had problems. Couple this with the wretched tamil and hindi movies and the uneducated bunch started to ape the movie characters. Hence we end up with this problem.
