Received via SMS Alert.

Parts of Kuala Lumpur was hit by flash floods just now with the Dataran Merdeka being the worst hit area. Some basement car parks have also been flooded.

All major roads in Kuala Lumpur are at a standstill as a result of this flooding. The Masjid Jamek LRT station has been closed as access to the station was cut off by water.

No casualties have been reported so far.

I read in the newspaper, The SUN, areas approximate to the Smartie tunnel: Jalan Kg Pandan and Tun Razak, were also flooded. How could this be? Didn't the official mouthpiece said that it was to control floods as flood mitigation projects? How could this be? Millions spent and back to square one? Malaysia Boleh!!!!!

Yes, it is an Act of God!

Please don't blame God.

That LRT station at Masjid Jamek is the main culprit of the KL floods.
Just take a look at the station - they tried to cut costs by building inside the river reserve -some 3 meters and that reduces the flow capacity.

So whenever the river gets full, the water simply overflows from this point upstream.

Sounds like the Smart Tunnel is just another exercise to extract exorbitant tolls from motorists.
Absolutely ineffetive for flood mitigation ? Watch out for the spin over the next few days.

Sure, behind every failure, there is always an excuse. Don't blame wrong party. I will not use it even if free. Blame the heavenly rain.

Just in: RM2 toll for SMART tunnel use. I had guessed that it would be around RM3, so RM2 sounds ok.

According to a blog:

Scheduled toll rates for SMART:

First day of tolling until 31 Dec 2009: RM2

1 Jan 2010 until 31 Dec 2014: RM3
1 Jan 2015 until 31 Dec 2019: RM4
1 Jan 2020 until 31 Dec 2024: RM5
1 Jan 2025 until 31 Dec 2029: RM6
1 Jan 2030 until end of concession period: RM7

True or not, time will tell.

Umphhhh the smart tunnel gonna be like the Federal highway then..after 30-odd years we are still paying for it...And oh yes, surely an act of Man not God. Look at the infrastructure, badly planned, managed and execute. How many more pockets do we need to fill, before something turns out right ? Never is a big word :(
