Muhammad Ali Jinnah Not A Freedom Fighter: Pak Islamists.

A major Islamist party has refused to recognise the contribution of Muhammad Ali Jinnah in the creation of Pakistan and has dropped his name from the list of leaders to be honoured at a special convention for freedom fighters.

Sparking a new controversy, Pakistan's Jamaati Ulema Islami (JUI) party of Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the Opposition leader in National Assembly, has said the country's founder Muhammad Ali Jinnah has done nothing worth remembering and dropped his name from the list of leaders to be honoured during special conventions it plans to organise to highlight services of ‘real freedom fighters’ who fought for the creation of Pakistan.

The JUI, headed by Rehman, would organise conventions in its stronghold Peshawar and other Pakistani cities this year to pay tributes to the ‘heroes’ who played an important role in the creation of Pakistan, ignoring Jinnah, regarded officially as Quaid-e-Azam (father of the nation) in Pakistan.

The conventions would also ignore Jinnah's companions, JUI leaders said. Instead the conventions would focus on the services of ‘real freedom fighters’, JUIs Information Secretary Maulana Amjad Khan was quoted as saying at Lahore by the Daily Times on Friday.
