Siti Nurhaliza Not Ready To Join Politics Yet.

Popular singer Datuk Siti Nurhaliza Taruddin will continue to be active in singing and is not ready to be involved in politics yet.

"A lot of people have asked me when I would be joining politics but for now I want to concentrate on singing. Not the right time yet," she told reporters after handing aid to a children's home, Rumah Kanak-Kanak Ini Disayangi (K.I.D.S) here Tuesday as the Jaya Jusco Foundation's ambassador.

Siti said that although she was not planning to enter politics, she would continue to support certain political or government activities.

"I will continue to give my support... I always attended and joined functions organised by the government. That is my support," she said.

She was asked to comment on a report that she was planning to be active in politics and was cultivating her interest in the field.

"Maybe some people thought that I am interested in politics after seeing my husband and me going down to the grassroots and handing out aid to the people," she said.

On the setting up of the Nur Jiwa Foundation by her and her husband, Datuk Khalid Muhammad Jiwa, Siti said she was happy with the welfare work besides her career as a singer.

On her role as Jaya Jusco Foundation's ambassador, she said that would continue to honour the appointment as was not in conflict with her Nur Jiwa Foundation activities. (Bernama)

***** A public personality like Siti who is hugely popular and has a mass following would indeed be a great asset for any political party. But while the party stands to gain a lot, what's in it for her? In politics there is always the very real risk of becoming instantly unpopular or disliked even. This has to be given serious consideration before making the leap into the dirty world of politics.

You have got to be joking me. Are we going to be like the Philippines, voting in dumb-ass actors, singers and radio broadcasters to lead our country?

Siti only knows how to open her mouth and emit air - what makes anyone think that would make her capable of running a household, let alone a country?!

Anonymous you're right when you say that we should not become like the Philippines and some other countries which have voted in entertainers to lead them.
However it also cannot be denied that such a popular person like Siti would make a great difference to the fortunes of a political party even if it is for the short term. I personally feel that entertainers should confine themselves to their forte unless they are also extremely capable of providing for the public good via politics.
As for Siti I reserve my opinion.

Since when has singing talent become a qualification for politicians.
Ah yes, they entertain a lot in parliament

I thinks we should not denigrate the potential leadership qualities of actors and actresses. Ronald Reagen's time as president is acknowledged as one of the best of times for the U.S., both politically and economically. A good leader need not be a know-all. Indeed no one can be a know-all. All he (or she) needs to do is to be able to ask the right questions and take the best advice from his advisors, who also should be carefully selected.

I suppose Malaysia needs more sugar-pop celebs to helm our nation through these trying times... Screw policies & manifestos, I'll vote the party that Siti joins. Baaa....
