Dr M Deserves Nobel Peace Prize, Says Sarawak-Sabah Foochow Association
Who says that the Tun does not have the support of the average person in the nomination for the Nobel Prize? Even the Foochows of East Malaysia are openly applauding the move. Read the details from Bernama below.
There are some who feel that Dr Mahathir doesn't deserve the award while others like the Foochow Association are elated. What do you think? If he does get the nod will you be, if not openly at least secretly, proud that a Malaysian has at last been honoured or will you bemoan the recognition of a dictator?

Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who did wonders for Malaysia during his tenure as prime minister more than deserved the nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize 2007, said the Sarawak-Sabah Foochow Association.***** So you see just because Keadilan or PAS go around rejecting and denouncing the nomination doesn't make a difference to Mr Philip Wong and his fellow Foochow clansmen. They will be very proud as many other Malaysians eventually will be, when the Tun is honoured with the Nobel Peace Prize.
Its president Philip Wong Pak Ming said: "He transformed our nation to an egalitarian society to what we are known today. On the international front, he made Malaysia to become a very respected member of the world community when it hosted numerous regional and global conferences like those of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC), APEC and many others."
Describing Dr Mahathir as a dynamic leader who voices out his opinions in defence of developing countries at international fora such as the United Nations (UN), Wong said, "Our job now is how to get the Norwegian Nobel Committee to recognise all the good work of Dr Mahathir in his contribution to world peace."
Dr Mahathir's nomination was spearheaded by former Bosnia-Herzegovina Vice-President Dr Ejup Ganic, who described Dr Mahathir as the Third World's "most illustrious contemporary" and its "most courageous advocate".
This year's nominees for the award included former US Vice-President Al Gore, Finnish peace broker Martti Ahtisaari and Chinese dissident Rebiya Kadeer.

More like the latter. I will bemoan the recognition of a dictator and the rise of the police state during his time. While striving for peace, he misses the days of Saddam. Wonder if the people of Iraq also miss Saddam.
I have refrained from criticizing Mahathir since his retirement, as he no longer has any executive power, and we need to keep focused on fixing our current problems.
But since this Nobel nomination IS about his life achievements, we need to dredge up his past, don’t we ? Bear in mind this nomination is for the Nobel PEACE prize, lets see what his contributions to peace has been.
- Operation Lallang 1987. 106 persons detained without trial
- 1988 sacking of the Chief Justice and 3 other supreme court justices in his campaign against the judiciary
- Anwar Ibrahim’s infamous trials. Key co-defendants in the sodomy trial were subject to torture and important evidence exonerating the defendants were suppressed.
- Lots more..
I was willing to let the past remain buried, but since these guys who support his nomination will be dragging out his “glorious past” I, too, have to dig up the dead skeletons.
P/ S I’m certainly no Keadilan or PAS supporter, but a believer in true peace, not Mahathir-style peace.
I don't remember a Sarawakian ever having been incarcerated without trial, tortured and deprived of human rights during Mahathir's time as PM. Maybe that's why they don't have the same thinking about Mahathir as some of us in West Malaysia. Besides if you have ever been to Sarawak you will sense that as Malaysians go, they are quite a breed apart.

If the indigenous Sarawak tribes don't count... then yes.
>> If Mahathir does get the Nobel Prize, then I guess it is alright to posthumously award the same to Adolf Hitler, Stalin and Mao Tse Tung, for their contributions to mankind.
Authoritarian he may be, but I don't think he approaches the likes of such people like Hitler. But I would NOT support his nomination to the NPP, and I think there are better candidates for that.
I would like to nominate Mr Philip Wong for the 'Village Idiot Prize' for his short-sighted views and limited knowledge of the nonsense that were going on in Mahatir's Malaysia
