Pas Youth - 'Ambassadors Of Love,' To Help Prostitutes Repent.
If it proves successful, then I think that PAS should be applauded for trying out an idea others may consider abhorrent or not worth the effort. The full story from the NST here.....
Pas Youth has come up with an ambitious plan to persuade prostitutes throughout the country to leave their profession.
Pas Youth chief Salehuddin Ayub said the plan, called "ambassadors of love and relief", would bring volunteers among the party ranks to set up teams of counsellors for this purpose.
These counsellors will approach prostitutes and persuade them to stop providing sexual services to men and to return to the right path, he added.
"We want our members to start thinking like statesmen. They must not be seen as dogmatic and insular," he said.
There are no figures for the number of prostitutes operating in the country. Since 2004 until July this year, about 15,500 foreign women had been arrested for prostitution.
Most of them were from China (6,000), Indonesia (4,596), Thailand (2,613) and the Philippines (1,316).
Others were from Russia, Uzbekistan, Cambodia, Vietnam, India and Myanmar.
Pas Youth has also planned to set up an Islamic-style drug rehabilitation method, which is also part of its "love and relief" strategy.
Co-operating with the Anti-Drug Agency (ADK) and Pemadam, the party’s youth wing has opened up two centres in Kuala Krai (Kelantan), and Banting (Selangor).
Salehuddin said the wing also provided counsellors from among its ranks for government-run Pusat Serenti (drug rehabilitation centres).
"We want Pas Youth to go out and serve the community, regardless of political beliefs," he said.
According to the ADK, 13,058 new drug addicts were detected in the country until June this year.
Of the number, 1,550 were in Kelantan, with an average of 258 new addicts every month.
About 70 per cent of the drug addicts are Malays, 98 per cent of them male. Salehuddin said the volunteers were trained counsellors.
***** What is not clear is the plan that PAS has for the prostitutes after they leave their profession. Will PAS provide them alternative jobs or will some of the love ambassadors even ask for their hand in marriage as they so generously did for young single mothers? The party's strategy of using love and relief for its Islamic-style drug rehabilitation method should also be praised. The time is now to try anything to assist our drug driven junkies. All the best to PAS in their noble efforts.

but honestly i agree with u, they should b applauded for taking the initiative..
i am not interested in thedrug side..there r other agencies around for that...
Coincidence ain't it bengbeng? Even on the drug side, frankly our agencies can do with all the help they can get.
Forgive my Xtreme cynicism, but there is still hope...
I have a strange feeling that this 'noble' cause is another free loading( free sex ) Xtravaganza
that emminently corrupted( no matter what they say ) PAS & UMNO are incomparably good at, and which the Simpletons back in the Kampongs will applaud, again & again.
Happy New Year all readers, it has been a great LOL for the past few months( not forgeting the delicious juicy refreshing enlightenments ) !
Special thanks to you the Malaysian for your valuable time, efforts and fair sincere comments.
there are individuals and groups who have been doing this all these while in malaysia! These people counselled the prostitues, try to get them to leave the profession and find them alternative jobs. They do that because they care about the plight of fellow humans, symphaty, amar mahruf nahi mungkar etcetc.
