Do You Agree With These Employer Demands?
Headline in TheStar today - Employers want legal redress denied to probationers.
Workers under probation may not be able to seek any redress if they are dismissed by their companies under a new proposal to amend the Employment Act.
Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Dr Fong Chan Onn said this was among the proposals mooted by employers to make the Act more flexible.
“At present, workers on probation can still seek redress from the labour court if they feel they have been unjustly dismissed or treated,” he told reporters after the weekly Cabinet meeting here yesterday.
“There is also a proposal by the employers for a cap on the amount of compensation that the labour court can award.”
****** Well, well, well! Looks like our employers want to have the cake and eat it too!! How unfair can they get? Firstly they demand that there should be no redress at all for probationers. This means that employers can treat them like slaves and pay them even less and there is nothing anyone can do to set it right. Then they want to put a cap on compensation! Sure. If they have it their way, our employers might limit all compensation to below RM100. I hope that the ministry is not even considering such a cruel measure. Let the rich get richer, no problem. But don't trample on the rights as well as the rice bowl of the poor, the needy and the helpless employee in the process.
